    NHT SB-3 Early impressions

First for some background info on these speakers. NHT makes audiophile quality speakers at affordable prices. Here are some links for reference.

    Now for impressions.

I am simply amazed. I was thinking that I would be dissappointed because until now there hasn't been an affordable speaker that can compete with headphones in the detail department. The paradigm titans and speakers are great buys, but can't compare to high end headphones when it comes to detail. The NHT SB-3's don't dissappoint. These are very well balanced speakers, especially for the price($420). They reveal the detail, provide the punch, and are lush while maintaining a a transparent nature. The presentation is slightly recessed but I have grown to like it already. The soundstage and headstage of these speakers are very impressive. Very airy and 3d. More impressions to come.

btw- they aren't efficient speakers and that is known about them. However, I'm using a jolida rated for 100w x 2 and it's even enjoyable at low volumes.

Yeah, a nice headphone setup can be a lot cheaper than a mid-fi speaker setup.

Sixerfan, do you plan on tossing some new tubes in your Jolida? Tube rolling could very well be the end of you

As soon as I pay a well deserved trip to the near by grocery store.
