    XBox bits in arcade game

Gamespot story: Sega's new arcade board based on Xbox 360?

Given all the discussions we have here on Console vs. PC, how many of you guys actually still push quarters into arcade games??

My arcade experience is mostly limited to Chuck E. Cheese with the kids. And the occasional couple bucks at the mall or boardwalk arcade. Nothing like the tons of quarters I went through as a pre-teen! Is the arcade experience still alive?

Not in america. I mean its there, but nothing like it once was.

A lot of other countries seem to still dig them though.

I found out there is an arcade just down the street from me, I've never been to it. Just don't feel like wasting my quarters when I could be doing laundry at home while playing on my computer. Same reason I don't go to Cyber Cafes anymore, I could be drinking cocktails and smoking at home instead of paying an hourly fee.

I went to my local Dave&Busters. Though I did play for some hours (have coupons for X amount of hours) I wasn't that impressed with the quality of the arcades.

Game I still love and play, Daytona from Sega.

I think the last time I went to an arcade was in 2000. I remember playing Marvel vs Capcom and really liking it. Then I got it for the ps and you couldnt tag characters in and out plus the graphics were bad. I talked my wife into letting me get a dreamcast and from that point on console games seemed to overtake their arcade counterpart especially Soul Caliber.

Dreamcast was actually built on Sega's Naomi arcade system chipset, so its a natural fit that there are so many good arcade games available for it. I still honestly think its one of the best systems ever made and could have lasted a few years longer had it not been killed. Hell, we're STILL seeing games being ported over from it to modern systems.

I guess my problem with arcades is the fact that everytime i go i see the same games over and over. DDR, Sega Daytona, Time Crisis, That old NBA one by midway.

Its probablly because the units are epensive and mom&pop places cant buy them new, but it seems like the newest machine i have seen is DDR, and that doesnt exactly do much for me.
