Finished F.E.A.R.

Holy damn, that is one SAD SAD story....

Seriously....

By the very end of the game, Alma didn't really scare me at all...

I actually became sad for her situation..
I really liked the very very end in the helicopter though where it was like...::thunk:: "what was that" "I dunno, but I wonder if we'll ever find Alma" ::Alma appears::
Now, on to Call of Duty 2 then Aoe 3

The imagery for Alma was great, and the enviornments were very good, and the audio was downright creepy, but nothing was ever "scary" to me at all.
Just finished the game, and I loved it. As an action game and a shooter, its a triumph. As a horror story, its a bit of a disappointment.

I seriously DO NOT see what everyone finds so scary or disturbing about this game if you've been gaming for awhile or watched any horror movies in the last 30 years.
Still a great game. Now on to Quake 4!

I find it disturbing that a girl has her first child at the age of 10, while in a chemical induced coma...I think that creeped me out more then anything
If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

I always hated horror movies. So I never really feel the draw to play horror games.

If you don't play it for the story, play it for the gameplay. It is awesome.

Damn straight! Couldn't agree more.

On a scale of 1-10, as a horror game, I would give FEAR a 6/10. I was never actually scared, and only a few parts made me nervous or squirm. It's like playing Ravenholm in Half Life 2, without any of the monsters. Creepy atmosphere, but nothing actually happens.
But as a shooter, it's easily a 9.
The firefights ALONE are simply the best I've ever seen in a game, IMO. Period. Far Cry, Max Payne, Call of Duty, Half Life, they all had their great moments, but just for sheer intensity of the battles, FEAR is my favorite.
This is made even better by the best AI I've ever seen in a shooter, and some of the best physics and by far the best special effects I've ever seen as well.
Each firefight was intense and gripping, and when the smoke and debris finally settled (literally), it was just incredibly satisfying to look over the "battlefield" at your dead enemies, take a deep breath, and move on to the next area.

Great, great stuff.

You feel bad for the girl in The Ring too, but that doesn't make her NOT EVIL.

Yup the gun fights were spectacular. Damn, funny you mention Ravenholm, that was my favorite lvl in HL2. The preacher was a bad ***.

Actually she was 15 when she had her first. 16 when she had her second then they pulled the plug 6 days later. I liked this game so much that I've already played it twice, first one on the 2nd hardest lvl and then on the hardest level. I'm sorry, but they could've made the ending a little harder then it was. Overall I think I like this better then Far Cry, and that's saying a lot!

I'm only in the third interval right now, but the game is starting to irritate me a bit; it's a lot of walking around, with occassional firefights. I do get to start killing cooler stuff soon, right?

As far as atomesphere, there's something about flickering lights and long dark hallways that's creepy, but I'm not as creeped out by this as I was by System Shock 2...but again, maybe I'm not far enough along with this one.

It gets better. Right now your orders still have you chasing freak boy around.

Hell you chase him around during the whole damn game. The orders are pretty lame imo.

I saved last night before I went to sleep right outside what I'm assuming is about to be a boss fight (usually, you get a buttload of armor, health, and/or ammo IMMEDIATELY before a boss fight; it's like an eternal FPS rule). The game unnerves me when I'm playing it, and I'm a bit more tense, but it's not really SCARY.
