    Entry Bookshelves

    If you saw in my other thread, I will be getting a Dayton 10" and a t-amp (unless I need something different), so I need some bookshelves to match. I perfer to keep it as small as possible, but I want to hear better sound than my T5400 sats if you know what I mean.

    No particular budget. I'm looking for the sats to give about the same bang for the buck as the Dayton, but mids and highs don't bother me too much, so nothing too fancy.

    The room on my desk is about 8 1/2" in width and depth for the left speaker. I can make a little extra room on the width (10" or so), however, on the depth, larger than 8 1/2" would leave speaker hanging off the back of my desk, so I'd rather keep it less than 8 1/2". Thx =)

    I recommend the Infinity Primus 150, well Soups recommended them to me but they're awesome for the price $110 shippped. Another plus it works great with the Dayton sub.

    The Primus 150's are probably one of the better "bang for your buck" speakers around, and will definitely match up well with the Dayton, however they are a little too big depth-wise...and extra 2" too big. The polk's mentioned shouldn't be too bad, and since it seems the overall accuracy/quality isn't THAT important to you, they'll probably do you just fine, especially at that price.

    Also just slightly too deep are the Athena AS BS1's. They are 9.5" deep, however I know for a fact they put out beautiful sound. I'd recommend these as highly as the Primus 150's any day, and they are an extra inch shorter.
    Audio Setups:
    E-MU 0404 ---toslink---> Panasonic SA-XR55s ---> Ascend Acoustics CBM170's with Dayton 12"
    E-MU 0404 ---analog---> Little Dot II tube amp ---> Beyerdynamics DT880 or Sennheiser HD280 pros.
    Technics SL-1200 MKII ---> TCC TC-750LC Phono Preamp ---> Panasonic SA-XR55s ---> Ascend Acoustics CBM170's with Dayton 12"

    Alright guys, change of plans... Size is no longer an issue, though they are going to be sitting on my desk. I'm going to get a corner desk so I can stretch the size a bit more.

    Here are the prices so far:

    R15 : $51
    150 : $59
    AS-B1 : $122

    With that in mind, what stands out the most?

    Also, will any of these speakers have problems with the Sonic T-Amp?

    I second the Infinity Primus 150's. Swerv raves about them.

    This is a wicked deal from a store with a high rating at www.resellerratings.com

    I personally have a set of AS-B1's and they're better for movies. Music isn't really their strong suit...imho. (too much treble, recessed midrange) A lot of bang for the buck but not the best performance. Primus150 > AS-B1

    Circuitcity should have the Primus 150's on display for an audition. They're also on sale as well.

    I got my prices mixed up... The R15s are $51 as a pair, and the Primus 150s are $110 as a pair. How do they match up?

    Also, still need to know if the t-amp will work with these... thx =)

    If you can afford it, definately go for the Primus 150's. They're worth the price difference if you listen to alot of music. Yup, the T-amp will power them fine.

    It's settled then

    Circuit City has them on audition so I'll go up there Friday and try them out, maybe even buy them, then run to Target and pick up the t-amp =)

    Thanks for the help everyone!

    circuit city is tricksey. aren't bookshelves normally priced per pair? I saw 62$ on the 150s and freaked out, almost ordered it right there, until I realized it was only price per one speaker

    If you can afford almost 300 dollars, I'd jump on the Axiom M2i's. Yeah I am bias as hell because I've owned them for over a year now.

    But these speakers simply are awesome. And I doub't you can find a better bookshelf for the price.

    True... and they are sexey. I think they cost around $260 actually, but be forwarned they do not do lower frequencies at all. If you want something with a little more range go with the M3Ti, they won't be as good in the upper-mid range though but there is not much of a difference.
