state of homebrew and emulation on the PSP
I'm not much of a "modern gamer"
when the PSP first came out I was looking at it and thinking it would make great emulation platform. but decided to wait and see before getting one.
now that months and months passed.
how is the status of the homebrew/ and emulation scene on the PSP now?
do we have near perfect emulation for the following systems yet?
- GAMEBOY/COLOR
- GAMEBOY ADVANCE
- NES
-SNES
- GENESIS
- TURBO GRAPHX 16/ PC Engine.
- and dare I ask NEOGEO?

although the psp is probably better for emus, im hoping that the ds starts to get some homebrew stuff pretty soon.
with the touch screen, the ability for it to be some sort of pda would be nice. Probably going to need some sort of flash cart for it though :/
Specs - mobo: Asus m2n-sli deluxe with an Athlon X2 4200. Videocard: 7900gt Ram: 2 gigs

Every system on your list (and then some) have emulators on the PSP. SNES, Genesis, game boy, NES all work great (sonic on geneis = <3), GBA is the only sketchy one. Latest versions seem kinda hit or miss, some games play ok and some are way to slow to be playable. All the GBA games ive tried are way to slow to be playable but im sure someday theyll be fine.
Only one i havent tried is the turbografx since i dont have any game for it (nor know of any id want to get)
My armor is Contempt
My shield is Disgust
My sword is Hatred

do they all have full speed & sound? and full screen?
because I am debating between a PSP or a GP2X (tho with this I don't mind waiting till it matures)

Yup, full speed, full sound full screen.. widescreen even! PSP is the ultimate portable. I did the homebrew thing for awhile and it was pretty cool. If the only reason you want one is homebrew.. well I have been out of the loop for a few months.. but it probably isn't worth it just for that

SNES works perfect now?
Last time I tried Mario Kart, it ran at like 5fps
X2 2.55GHz - 2GB Patriot EP - Abit AN8 SLI - 7800GT CO

Awesome.
SNES is still far from perfect and no emulator has been updated in months.
The PSP scene is dead.
Oh, and the ghosting on the PSP's awful screen makes some games unbearable to play

The psp scene definately isnt as exciting as it was back in June. The snes scene sucks right now--there is an emulator that will work decent if you turn off the sound and crank up your mhz on the psp. It really has a lot of potential but dont get one for emulation as you will be disappointed.
Also if you buy a psp now you get the updated firmware which isnt as compatible with homebrew.

yeah that's what I was afraide of it. Sony discourage homebrew. and SNES runs like crap.
I recently tried the PSP and the first thing I did noticed was the ghosting. and it's on Ridge Racer. so I can imagine how bad it will when it comes to 2D scrolling.
guess I'll wait for the GP2X to mature alittle. it'snot offically released and there's tons of stuff out for it already

I kinda view the PSP as the new game gear of the moment. Skipping this, but I'll proabbly be interested in the second generation of PSP. Sony has been pretty good and fixing mistakes.
If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

You're going to see games on the SNES running at around 90-100% of what they should for games WITHOUT mode 7 or SuperFX.
With it, it drops to around 50% sometimes less (haven't tried mario cart)>

It's a sort of Linux pocket console which attempts to do basically what people were trying to do with homebrew on the PSP:
http://www.gbax.com/indexgp2x.html
It was launched a couple of months ago here in the UK but it was clearly not ready for release as it was plagued with many bugs, hardware and software which they are currently working on sorting out before a more widespread release.
