Business use...Intel or AMD

It really depends on what type of business you own. For a small business, i would go AMD , since you are not hosting valuable data. Our company hosts alot of sensitive data, and we go with Intel because amd has a potential "heat problem". In reality, this might not be important, but the "potential" is always there.

Plus, we have a contract with Intel , and thats what keeps most companaies goign back to Intel.

Dumbest move ever? Hmmm, Dell happens to be the largest manufacturer of PCs in the WORLD, period. Dumb move? I don't think so. They're doing something right. Dell more than likely gets huge discounts on Intel chips because of A) the volume they buy and B) because Dell sells only Intel chips.

1. Presentations.

2. Netmeeting.

3. Convenience (there's no rules against listening to CDs or anything, and there's no money saved by -not- including sound anymore)

There have been many good replies so far concerning speed, prformance, stability and service. Actually it would depend on the applications being used. I would say that the P4 really only has one benifit and that would be the service provided by using a prebuilt system such as Dell. The Athlon on the other hand seems to be a better prefoming solution for most business applications (according to benchmarks) but how much preformance is really necessary for business applications. Now there is one other thing that might actually rule out both INTEL and AMD, and it's not a Apple solution but a Cirix/VIA solution due to its low power draw it requires less cooling and could possibly run with passive cooling using a INTEL chipset, giving preformance well within what is required for most business apps, the stability of the INTEL platform, low cost and an almost silent machine that could be well worth consideration. I mean lets face it who wants to be stuck in a office all day with a computer that sounds like a vacum cleaner.
