I4one, oh I didn't know you were into guitars. I'm really dabbling with the thought of learning how to play in my free time. (the electric type of guitar that Santana plays or the one that you can always hear in Coldplay songs)

David9799, the colors on the Dell are really vibrant but they don't have that 3D/gloss/deep black effect like Xbrite screens do. I've always liked how Xbrite screens look but I don't think I could deal with all the reflection. (they seem to reflect more than CRT screens) The Dell doesn't seem to have one of those "purple" anti reflective coatings but there is no glare/reflection due to the matte screen.

Aztec61, really nice rig you have there. That must have cost a fortune. Nautilus 803's! I'm so jealous.

Big Ibanez fan right here, some of the best basses I've played for the money! I have an Ibanez TR which I am refinishing, going to be natural wood with a nice stain. My baby is my SRX505 though

No way! Gimme a Gibson T-bird anyday - or a Les Paul, or an SG. I'm sorta in the Dave Schools school of lowness.

Jack Casady, Chris Squire, and Tony Levin ain't bad either.

    .....
    As you can tell from my older posts, I'm a Gibson guy (like aztec61) - Les Paul, Explorer - but i've also owned;
-- a beautiful deep blue (electric blue) PRS that I just couldn't used to the action on, nor the fret scaling diff (IIRC - gibson=24, fender=25, PRS was like 24-1/2...something like that). Lasted about a year with me, and saw many gigs, but I ended up selling it for a bit more than half the $1700 I paid

-- Fender strat - this was a decent guitar but a 'newer' and customized model (I ordered it with a Floyd Rose, but at that time it was the 'newer' rose type - and it had a humbucker in the treble position) ...in the end it didn't fit/work out for me either - but I got 'some' mileage out of it

...Charvels (original - which I should've kept), Jacksons, etc -- Acoustic Guild, Fender, Ovation (yuk) almost bought a Washburn at one point - and many others - I've been outta touch with this stuff so long, I can't even recall brands and terminology ...lol - but I still have most of my original gear including Gibsons, a 12-string, Marshall heads and cabs, and all the Boss floor pedals....and some other stuff.

Anyway - playing guitar (or most any instrument, ...except the pan flute ) can be quite rewarding to one's spirit
Afterwards (once you're decent), and playing with other talented ppl can have even a transcendant feeling - a natural high - and very satisfying for your overall psyche. I grew up playing LOUDLY -- lol, as a matter of fact, one of my older bands used the term "Loudness" to decribe ourselves, and emblazened on our posters. Loud; but sweet and warm - smooth distortion via 'even' harmonics (all tube Amps for guitars), no white noise type 'odd' harmonics. Older vintage equipment is a must for this though- but they've been making much re-vintaged stuff as a good secondary choice. I've used Hiwatt amps but didn't really like 'em too much compared to Marshalls - but helluva lot better than Fenders....rememeber, I'm going back some years ago - I've heard, and then tried/tested Mesa Boogies when they first came out, and man they sucked then (as far as tonal quality) - even though they were "well made" amongst a sea of available junk at that time.
For me - I'm self-taught; "All done by ear" - but many methods can help , and while one requires a musical ear to be able to be good at an instrument, one can use many means (tablature/books/classes - just jammin' ) in helping to teach themselves how to play/practice

Yeah I4, playing is definitely theraputic. I'm a drummer originally and still am, but always wanted to take up the bass. (Seems I can never get enough of the freq's below 80Hz. ) Played bass in my uncle's country band for a little, until they kicked me off! LOL!

But the last band I had was me, a guitar/singer and a bass (Washburn acoustic BTW). We did alright doing heavy Chicago-type blues (Son Seals, Buddy Guy), and had quite a few of our own tunes written. One of our crowd faves was one called "Ragtop Automobile". We were pretty proud of that one, and it would always go into an improv groove and last 8 or 9 minutes.

Drum-wise, it's nothin' but Tama StarClassics and Paiste for me, DW hardware and Pearl Eliminator kick pedals.

    SHWEET!

Thanks FreedonX! Oh, my old PC is still being used as the family computer/print server.

Don't worry, it'll come eventually. What are you getting? Also, when you come to the US buy some cheap hardware to take it back with you.

    Cyber: I have a P3 1ghz, 512mb ram, Ti4200, Audigy 2, 80 Gig WD, 60 Gig IBM Deathstar, Benq DW1640, and Sony G400.

Nice parts Freedon! You're joining the 24" Dell club. You'll love dual core. You can use Bittorrent and game with not much impact on performance.

On a side note, I'm doing Evga's vidcard step-up program to upgrade my 7800GT CO to a 7900GT CO SC. This means I'll be without it for around a month. I'm using a Ati 3D Rage II PCI card with 4mb of memory right now. The vidcard is going in the mail tomorrow. In a way this is good since my co-op work term ends in a month and this will give me time to send out resumes instead of playing games. I'm just glad I can still use my new rig.

The "beast" vidcard. (year = 1997)

Would the 4MB on the card be able to display the max resolution of the 24" ?
