Sometimes the favorites ICONs dissapear and just show up as the regular Explorer ICON. With Mozilla the ICONs always stay... Is this happening to anyone else?

That's most likely the cause of the problem. You need to uninstall the previous versions prior to installing Beta 3. I read that somewhere in the voluminous IE documentation of the private MS Beta program site.
