Well, strange list. It's more like someone's personal disappointments than something else.

May 8th, 2006 - Sony holds it's E3 conference announcing the pricing of the PS3 at $600/$500

??? And how is that a disappointment? U were expecting 100$? No kidding I am neither excited nor disappointed by that. Given the features the price is more or less inline with other comparable offerings.

May 31st, 2006 - Sony's Phil Harrison denies copying the Wiimote and states that the PS3 will replace the PC

How is this one disappointing? Or for whom? Which part is frustrating anyway?

Sept 6th, 2006 - PS3 is delayed in Europe until March 2007

Agreed, sux to be them if waiting for PS3.

Sept 26th, 2006 - PS3 first-party titles announced to be the same price as third party titles, at $59.99

Again, expecting them to be cheaper? On what grounds?

Sept 26th, 2006 - Square Enix will not exclusively support Sony's PS3 as much as they did with the PS2.

And that's a disappointment by Sony? U can add about 100000 companies there that won't support Sony exclusively and hang it all on Sony...

Sept 29th, 2006 - Sony's President Ken Kutaragi states that his company does not care about the Xbox 360 and Wii competition.

So? Is that frustrating to someone? In general they do care, that is obvious. But still, don't like it don't buy it...

October 12th, 2006 - Sony Exec calls the 360 and Wii "too expensive"

Yeah, terrible, very frustrating. Like U've never heard any exec trashing competitors product before. It was Sony that started it.

October 30th, 2006 - PS3 will push Sony $1.71 billion into the red

Unless you are shareholder I don't quite see how this one is frustrating all that much. Besides this is direct result of console selling @ loss, till they make up the price by selling games, licenses etc. So, someone needs to make up his/her mind whether he wants cheap console or Sony making profits on those immediately.

Nov 8th, 2006 - Sony ships without update. You must update your PS3 out of the box in order to use PlayStation Network

There will be many updates later on. So? UR gonna get frustrated every time?

Nov 9th, 2006 - Oblivion is pushed back from launch title to Jan 2007

My Xbox 360 has them too. Can't play Soul Calibur for example. Halo needed patch and so on. Yeah, disappointing to some degree but it's not Sony exclusive.

Most likely some will accuse me of being Sony fanboy, but alas, I don't own anything made by Sony except for the few movies made by Sony studios. DVD player I had from Sony I gave away 6 months ago.
I do have my gripes with them about the whole blu-ray(which I do support, and mainly because there's a lot more companies than Sony involved) mess and crappy movie transfers and delayed BD player and so on.

Nevertheless, some of the things up there are waaay out there others can be applied to any company in general. And posting 10 threads with anti sony/ps3 content doesn't give anyone more credibility, and imho waste of bandwidth and rather annoying.

Yeah, Sony screwed up lately on many things and PS3 isn't all of it. I don't like them as a company. Especially because of their "proprietary" crap.

Still, I wouldn't want to see them sink and have MS the only major console maker, since Nintendo is no competitor for xbox360. Otherwise in few years you can post your frustration list with console prices well over 1000$ and either pay for that or be w/o console at all. At least now U can choose.

yes well in the end, the majority would agree that $600 is rediculous, and sony fails at launching consoles.
$60 for a game is insane too.

for the record i love bashing sony. i have no shame! i love my ps2, i love my sony hdtv and my trinitron monitor, but they've tried to exploit my brand loyalty by assuming people like me would stumble over each other trying to give them $600 for a bunch of BS. and saying, we should work harder if we cant afford it. the arrogance. they can kiss my ***. if kojima wants to stick with the ps3 too, then he can go to hell also.

I think one of the worst things was taking forever to get the developer kits out. Talk about stupid.

First, you put down the list because it looks like a list of personal disappointments, then you specifically mention that YOU are neither excited nor disappointed. Judging by the massive uproar after the announcement, and frequent news ever since that even the lay person is amazed by the price (such as that survey that said a lot of people expected it to be $300), that is a pretty big disappointment.

Not really a disappointment as much as it is just another case of bad publicity. They included this feature thinking it would be great, and then they get almost universally ripped for it.

On the grounds that many first party titles have been cheaper in the past, like Shadow of the Colossus. Overall, not really all that big of a disappointment, though.

Who is hanging it all on Sony? This is still a disappointment for the PS3 in general, no matter who is at fault. It's one more advantage that they no longer have over the competition.

I would have to see the actual article to make a judgment on this one, but MS sells their consoles at a loss, too, but they aren't in the red. Their games division, sure, but this looks like the PS3 is dragging their entire company down (along with other stuff, such as the rootkit fiasco).

There's a big difference between updating later on to improve functionality or respond to criticism and shipping a product you know is incomplete or glitchy. Some people are going to be camping out for days to get a PS3, and the first thing they have to do when they get home is update their console?

Sony has been pushing their awesome backwards compatibility as a main selling point, though, and now they're having trouble delivering. Everyone knew what they were getting into with the 360, though admittedly MS isn't supporting their compatibility like they said they would, either (by not adding too many more games to the compatibility list). Still, whether MS did it too or not doesn't really matter, it is still disappointing. We shouldn't just accept problems because other companies do the same thing, we should press them to do better. Unfortunately, with only three real competitors out there, we don't have much choice in the matter.

lol, they were even assholes to the devs. i remember reading that harai or kutaragi said that they werent too woried about how hard it was to develop for the ps3 because like the ps2, the devs would have to learn it anyways and it wouldnt effect anything.

Living in a dreamworld It was unrealistic to expect last gen console with blu ray included to be 300. I don't remember all this fuss about xbox 360 which was over 400$ on launch and didn't include Hi Def dvd player.
If they promised 300 and then bumped to 600 it'd be a disappointment, but as it is? BD player, latest console, HDMI 1.3 and all that for 600? I've paid 450 for xbox premium, litle bit more I don't remember, and that was in march 2006, 56 months after launch! if I add hd dvd addon I'll be little bit over 600. Still, no HDMI, not even 1.1 Nevermind that it's a clunky addon for which I have to find extra space. I'd be more than happy if the whole thing was 300 or better yet 150$, but in real life that's how much things cost today.

I am sure applies to 99% of the companies out there. At some point everyone goes negative about competitors and their own superiority. Not nice obviously, but such is business env. they created themselves and operate in.

Considering MS money and profitability... If Sony had their Windows and Office dominating the world market I am sure they'd be in the same green So, in that regard comparison to MS is not exactly fair. MS can absorb a lot more than Sony. Not that I am justifying stupid decisions Sony made.

U can say the same about guys who bought their xbox week after fall update. First thing they had to do was the update. I bought blu ray player and 1st thing I had to do was the firmware update. It will always be the case in the days of updateable firmware. Especially with the new generation hardware. Would you rather wait 3 month to get that update?

The list and thread were titled Sony's disappointment list. While some of the things are clearly Sony exclusive and screwups bunch of it is either someone's personal frustration or not very clear at all.

Neither do I. Which is why I asked. Apparently someone was expecting more than ps3 for their money and got disappointed and now blaming Sony.

Anyway, I am no advocate of Sony, or anyone else. IMHO there is constructive criticism and there is pointless bashing. When folks run around different forums and crosspost crap like that list along with bunch of other bashing threads, doesn't really matter what's the subject, Sony, PS3, MS or whatever else.

I see a lot of that lately on other forums as well, be it Blu-Ray or HD DVD. And it's irritating.

I don't own PS3, and less likely that I will ever own one. xbox 360 does it for me, at least for now. However... Or because of that I do want MS to have worthy competition so that next xbox won't be 1600$.
