In windows 2000 , control panel , Power Options and at the Advanced tab there is the option "when i press the power button on my computer" and i select Shut Off
what is the diferrence between Shut Off and Shut Down??????

Shut down is a software process that will shut down the computer to a point where you can hit the power button. Hence the "It's now safe to shut off your computer" screen. Shutting off, or powering off, more directly refers to the act of actually pressing the power button. Most computers these days automatically power off your computer when you shut it down, so these terms are sometimes seemingly interchanged.

i use the shut off function and i have the feeling that its shuts down the computer faster than the normal shut down and some times it doesn't keep some settings i use in windows (like some desktop icons are in other position)
