Sager laptop running too hot...
Ok so my girlfriends model D470W Sager laptop started shutting off on here with no warning today. I took it apart, cleaned it out, knew it always ran hot so I also took the heatsink off the CPU, cleaned it off and put some Arctic Silver on it. The rebooting problem is still sporadic, I'm checking a few things as far as that's concerned but first I thought Id try to get it to run cooler so I could rule that out as a problem. Even with cleaning it out and the Arctic Silver it still runs @ 54C and hits 59C before the fan kicks on. All this while while idle and with the laptop sitting flat on a desk. I turned it on its side totally exposing the bottom and the temp dropped to 49C, then spiked at 59C before the fan kicked on again. We never use the thing on the go since the battery life sucks so is there a way I can make the fan run constant or kick on sooner?

The older P4 always did run so much hotter... Have you tried investing in a laptop cooler? I have used Vantec Lapcool2 and it does do its job well.

Sager D470W overheating
Yes, the dirty heat sink and air plenum blockage (with dust bunnies) will cause it to overheat. However, due to the age of the laptop, its highly possible that your hard drive is about to "eat it"... mine did, and that was the cause of my problems after I thoroughly cleaned the processor air plenum. Buy a new 80GB harddrive and do an exact copy to the new one using a USB port. You may need to buy special software/hard drive case (external) to do this, but if your info and operating system are important to you, its worth the extra bucks. Good luck and trust me, the hard drive is a big heat generating device and will eventually lock-up on you.

I need all the drivers for my Sager D370W due to hard drive replacement and stupid loss of the original discs ( I had to buy a new copy of Win XP... damn). Where can I find the complete disc distributed with the laptop in an ISO file? I will settle for individual drivers as well...

PS: I know you're trying to be helpful, but please check dates. Golfin has already been banned and probably died from internet herpes.
Anyway, although HDD is a possibility, from reading the initial posting, it sounds to me like integrated video overheating problems. Doesnt matter anyway since this is a dead thread.

you can't blame him though. if someone posts something like a basic question, some forums will crap all over him for not using the "search" function (granted this is not an everyday noob question). seeing how this thread is from 2007, it looks like that is what happened.
for instance, the only google result for "D370W drivers" brings you here.
