Weird Start menu issue in Vista/DoW

I generally pin my favorite applications to the Start menu in Vista. Works like a charm, except with Dawn of War. Whenever I pin DarkCrusade.exe to the start menu I get an error when I click the link.

    "Error loading C:\Windows\system32\dlltie.dll

The specified module could not be found."

I take it this means its not resolving the path correctly as dlltie.dll is in the Dark Crusade program folder. For some odd reason, though, the desktop shortcut works fine, as do all the other programs I have pinned to the start menu.

    Any ideas?

Next upgrade: As soon as I can get an Ivy Bridge machine with 128GB SSD for under $600.

Pin a shortcut to the exe file to the start menu, not a shortcut to a dll.

As stated, I pinned DarkCrusade.exe to the start menu, not a dll. I think the exe references the dll and gets confused for some reason, although why this happens in the start menu and not the desktop I have no idea.

Look at the properties of what you actually pinned to the start menu. There should be a full path and a path of where to start. If the other shortcut works, copy the info from there.

Copied from the Start menu -> Properties of DarkCrusade.exe shortcut.
Filename (in General tab of properties menu): DarkCrusade.exe
Location: C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade

    Copied from the desktop shortcut.
    Target: "C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade\DarkCrusade.exe"
Start in: "C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade"

As far as I can see they're identical except that for some reason the wording is a little different for the start menu version.

I just tried dragging the desktop shortcut to the start menu as well... it makes a shortcut to the desktop shortcut rather than to the exe itself, and stops working if I remove the desktop version - even though in the properties menu it lists itself identically to the desktop version and the path specified is to the exe, not to the desktop shortcut.

Look at the shortcut properties, not the general properties.

Same results. It points to the exe, not the desktop shortcut. I get the Create Shortcut icon when I drag it from the desktop to the start menu - usually holding Ctrl changes from Shortcut to Copy, but it doesn't seem to work in this case.
