Best codec pack for a new PC?
I would LOVE an all-in-one audio/video solution for 32-bit XP Pro, opinions?

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 2.01. it's the most hassle-free codec pack i've ever used. many people swear by CCCP but i just don't see that it has any advantages.

both packs are both very comprehensive in terms of codecs supported. however, i have been screwed over by k-lite in the eary days and never went back.
if you watch anime, definitely choose CCCP since it's the main pack supported by all main fansub groups. k-lite doesn't even get a look in, in this area.

Second for k-lite as a codec pack and vlc as a media player btw. Both have all the codecs ive ever needed and ive never had a problem with any formats.

err.... just a quick question, why?
i much prefer windows media player classic (which is bundled with CCCP) because it can display subtitles correctly, unlike VLC which has extremely poor support for it.

I just install divx, xvid, and ac3. Everything seems to play okay for me. I also use GSpot if a media file doesn't play correctly. Any advantage to using one of the above codec packs?

well, it really depends on what you watch and how much you watch it. when you install a codec pack you're pretty much guaranteed that every media file imaginable will play on your PC. it will also let you tweak just about everything and anything. Media Player Classic, which comes with both the above mentioned codec packs is a really good media player. it's simple and lightweight yet it's still highly configurable. however, if you haven't yet noticed any shortcomings with the software you use now, then you're good to go. give it a try though, you might be pleasantly surprised.

I installed the K-lite codec pack a while ago...
and it kinda fudge my system up..
when I brows my files and if I highlight a file.. itwould give my explorer an error (while trying to get a preview pic on the left side of the window) and close it.
that happens with some video but it's annoying..
