Linux & OpenGL (Nvidia)
Any linux guys out there who might be able to answer this...?
I'm trying to get OpenGL to work on Mandrake 7.0 system (kernel 2.2.15). I've installed the latest XFree server (4.0.1) and got the latest Nvidia_kernel and Nvidia_glx files from Nvidia's drivers page. (I have changed the XF86Config file to load both nvidia and glx.) The XFree86.0.log states that Xfree is loading both the nvidia, glx, and libglx modules. Whenever I try to run an OpenGL program I get this error:
Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Bash, great name for a Linux fan! haha GO SHELLS! Anyways, the XFree86 4.0.2 is the lastest version. I installed SuSE 7.1 and XFree86 4.0.2 installed with it. As for the OpenGL, what are you trying to run that is OpenGL. I've got a Radeon, but maybe the same problem exists. Keep me posted. maybe an update to 4.0.2 will solve it!

Heheheh I'm glad you like my name
For example the problem happens, if I try to run a really simple opengl demo like
/usr/X11R6/bin/gears
I don't think it's a bug in XFree86 (yet). I'm betting there's something wrong in my system.

I'll boot into Linux after supper, and see if I can get mine to run! Have you tried to update to XFree86 4.0.2 yet?

Hrm I looked at it again and now I'm pretty sure I'm running 4.0.2. I did just download the Xfree86 files from ftp.xfree86.org today.

I forgot to ask, but what are you running for a GUI kinda thing. KDE, KDE 2, Gnome, or something else?

Well I'm running Kde 1.2 but anyway I found the problem finally. I had changed the proper lines in XF86Config but NOT in XF86Config-4. After making the proper changes in XF86Config-4 the nv-glx extension loaded.

IIRC, the latest NVIDIA drivers work ONLY with XFree86 4.0.2

Good to see you got the problem fixed Bash. How is it running so far? Are you playing any games in there?
