17" widescreen cooling suggestions?
Hey guys,
havent posted here in a while... trying to find a laptop cooler for a 17" widescreen laptop. I know they exist, but they're hard to find, and I'm trying to find a DECENT one that wont break in 5 minutes. Any suggestions?
Thanks
I have an HP Pavilon dv4000 I bought a year and a half ago with an x700 MOBILITY that I'm trying to find a way to eventually upgrade, so heat may or may not be an issue (plus I like gaming on this while im on vacation and it's raining out )

When you say cooler, do you mean an internal HSF unit or one of those fan things that goes underneath?
I'm guessing you mean the latter, but I can't seem to find any. Even Thermaltake only offers active units that support 15" displays max, which suggests to me that it'll be hard to find one. However, TT does offer this -- http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/produc...01/r15on01.asp -- which seems to be a passive cooling mat that will handle 17" laptops. It might help?
I'd also suggest that it'd be unlikely that you'll be able to significantly upgrade the video card in your system. Companies rarely release new user-upgradable video modules, but if one does come available, it's very likely that your system will either be able to handle it or it won't. There won't be an in between state where you can "make" it work by cooling it more. Don't forget -- the hot air in your laptop's case has to get out, and if the fans inside don't move it enough, a little extra cool air on the bottom isn't going to help much.

I've always liked Vantec's Lapcool series... Lapcool2 was the best imo...

You just have to use a smaller size, like anything made for a 15". I use a cooler which only probably fits a 13" on my 15.4" - it just hangs over a bit, no big problem. The main point is to lift the notebook above the surface so that its fans can breath. You get very little cooling from the metal surface of the cooler, or fans built into the cooler.
