TEAM AWESOME!
For Those of You Who Suffered Through RRoD...
What was the process you went through in order to have your 360 sent/repaired/returned?
Nothing has happened to mine YET. But, as nukefault jokingly pointed out, it is inevitable (maybe). So I was wondering... how did you guys go about getting the ball rolling for your warranty?
I know we are all covered by a three year warranty from what I'm assuming is purchase date (you didn't have to sign up for it or anything, right?)
The reason why I'm asking if because I received this xbox360 as a gift, and I don't have a receipt for it. My girlfriend bought it, and I told her she should probably keep that receipt (if she even still has it). She bought it from Target.
So should this ever happen to me, how do I go about resolving the issue?

well they have a service website where you can register your 360 and I assume set it up for repair...I say assume because every time I try and register mine I get some message that says "a problem has occurred"...like a classic microsoft error that doesn't provide any information so it seems like I have to call them up and do it over the phone which I really don't feel like doing...
I also assume that for now they're kinda skipping the warranty part and just saying "if you have a problem we'll fix it anyways"

How in the hell can they tell if I'm covered under that 3 year period if I don't have a receipt?

That's not very optimistic... what about my chainsawing???
Seriously though. Did you guys have to say "oh yea receipt here says xxx xxxxx" or whatever.
Like what exactly did they have to ask for/you had to do/what info did you have to tell them?
Because if I received it as a gift there is no way I have the receipt, and am I covered under the warranty even though I didn't sign anything/mail anything in that said "YES! Cover me under this! (even the simple 1 yr thing... I'm assuming it was 'warranty out of the box')!

That's the second time you have said 75% of sharkies have had their 360s die, but according to the poll that was taken it was 32%.
http://sharkyforums.com/showthread.p...ht=360+failure
Granted that poll was taken 2+ months ago, but even if a few more people have had their 360s fail it's nowhere near the 75% mark you cite.

In my experience with the Xbox and now the Xbox 360, you just need to tell them the serial number of the console and an estimated time of purchase. For the original Xbox I had a launch console that had the "DDE" (Dirty Disc Error), the "RROD" of the first Xbox so to speak. Although not anywhere near as bad as the RROD, the DDE did affect most of the launch consoles with Thompson (IIRC) DVD-ROMS. By the time my console couldn't read any discs it was already a year or two out of warranty yet Microsoft fixed it for free. I don't think there was an extension for DDE, but perhaps there was. In any case the entire process went really smoothly and that Xbox is still running great.
I just bought a 360 not too long ago and fell victim to the RROD rather quickly and sent it to Microsoft for repairs. It should be back...err..today, heh, at which point I'll tell you how well the repair went. According to the service site I'm getting the same 360 that I sent in which going by the posts on the Xbox forums is quite rare as usually they'll send you a refurbished unit. The worst part of the process (besides the RROD in the first place, obviously) has been the shipping, though that is no fault of Microsoft's. The "coffin" as it is so lovingly referred to is shipped via UPS 3-day, but took 4 to reach me because it kept getting delayed for whatever reason. It was shipped Monday, July 30th and I received it Friday, August 3rd and thus the 360 wasn't shipped to the repair center until Monday, August 6th. When I sent it back with the 360 inside, it made a stop in Redmond, WA, lol, too bad it had to go to McAllen, TX. Guess Microsoft didn't want to just send me a 360 from the office . The 360 arrived at the McAllen repair center on Thursday, August 9th, was signed for by "JONES" and was there for repairs until it was shipped back on Monday, August 20th with an ETA of Thursday, August 23rd (today). So assuming it arrives the total time would have been about four weeks from when I first started having problems.

Your figure is a bit off, I think the majority of people here whose had their thing die was after a year, myself included. Hell, the first time I even had to pay for the repair because it was out of warranty (and I still haven't recieved my reimbursement check.)

Thanks for clearing up some of the confusion for me... whom exactly do you have to call/website to get the ball rolling?
Remember again to everyone, mine hasn't died yet, I just wasn't sure of the process
