fastest laptop with HDMI output and HD-DVD ROM
Need a laptop. Ideally a HD-DVD burner, but HD-DVD ROM will suffice, and HDMI to watch HD-DVDs on a large plasma HDTV.
Can't find any decent laptops with a fast processor though (how come no mobile quad-cores yet?).

This Asus G2-Extreme looks decent, Intel Core 2 Extreme X7800(2.60GHz) CPU, but 8600GTM instead of the new 8700GTM. Only 2 GB RAM. Only 200 GB hard drive.
Does anyone know of any laptops with this processor (or better X7900 2.8 Ghz), plus 4 GB RAM (DDR2800), 8700GTM video card, +400 GB hard drive space, and HD-DVD burner/player? Or a site where I can customize this type of laptop.

do you know how fast quad core will suck throught the battery :O, you won't find any 400gig laptops, why not just build a HTPC

yes it has HD-dvd rom, but it does not have Quad core, 4gig of ddr2-800ram, or the 8700 , he will never find what he wants, since high end laptops will always come with blue-ray =high end, HD-dvd, will come with lower end laptops since cheaper, so he is pretty much stuck with blue-ray if he wants everything else

The laptop you mentioned (Asus G2Extreme) pretty much uses the fastest and most powerful components you can stick in a laptop. Quad-core laptop chips do not exist. 400GB laptop hard drives do not exist. HD-DVD burner/players in laptops do not exist. Heck, it will would not be easy to build a DESKTOP machine with the specs you want. You can look all you want, but you simply will not find a laptop with those parts you mentioned.
You have three choices at this point:
1) Accept the fact that the specs you want are simply not available, and go with lower (but acceptable) specs... dual-core CPUs, 250GB internal hard drive space (using an external drive or NAS if you need more)... Blu-Ray drive, etc.
2) Wait for those parts to become available on laptops. This may take a while, because neither the CPU or hard drive specs you mentioned are "just around the corner." It will be a wait.
3) Build yourself a desktop with those specs, and use it as a media PC.
Edit: Tweakerpc2002, please stop inserting smiley faces in your post. It does not make you look cute. It does not make you look funny. It does not make you look clever. In fact, it makes your posts annoying, and causes people to ignore what you say. IF YOU WOULD LIKE AN ANALOGY JUST IMAGINE IF SOMEBODY WERE TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS ALL THE TIME. SEE? THAT IS ANNOYING ISN'T IT? Please cut the smiley faces out.

Thanks for all the help guys. I figured since Toshiba had the HD-DVD drive out for so long with their laptop, more high end specs would show up. Why can't we build laptops like desktops? All the parts I want exist...just not together in one system!

The biggest factor would be battery... all those devices would at best give about 1 hour life!! That would not make it a practical laptop then, would it?

i still suggested to him make one of his Qaud core desktops into a HTPC just put a a HD-dvd and a turner card, and hook up his sound to the computer, and thorugh a 8600gts or 8800 in there and her should be set
