Here's the first thing I could find which seems to be what you are looking for:

you can still use dual cards true?

I mean in oother PCIE slot for mac osx ...

Also , one more thing, how can you run non EFI VGA on EFI mobo?

edit: does it mean you can use ANY card inside the MACpro? I mean for windows Vista?

there is no need to switch cables , if you have a good TFT with 2 inputs , or u can use a switch

    I'm using Mac Pro v.1
EFI: Windows has no issues, neither does having pcie 1.0 make any difference with 2.0. It's all Apples words against ours to "buy time"
SEE HERE: I signed the petition a little complaining goes a long way..
    http://www.appleinsider.com/articles..._mac_pros.html

Inputs: Well the thing is, the x1900XT video card I have was just replaced by Apple for being a dud, so I want to keep it new because I'm selling this Mac Pro to get the 8Core Mac in a few months. The x1900XT is a day old.
I don't want to buy an overpriced dvi box for oSx use, when I'll be switching to a new Mac pro later.

I plan on keeping this 8800GT Overclock and putting it in the newer Mac Pro , because by that time the EFI should be available. This card smokes! It beats GTS and is on par with GTX! 1900MHZ ram !
1625mhz shader clock! 125mhz faster than Ultra

You can use 8800GTX, or 2900XT, 3870 video cards in Mac but only In Vista, that is correct. You do need the PCIE cable adapter from www.welovemacs.com
    http://www.welovemacs.com/9227128.html
Attach this to the ATi or Nvidia cards.

JAMES: thanks for those links! that will help me benchmark my COD4.
Then I can simply put it back during regular gameplay

Thanks for the pics Danny. How's the noise of the 8800GT cooler at idle/gaming compared to the X1900XT? I've heard they're pretty loud.

I understand the Macpro VGA draws the power from onboard plugs?

is it safe to use somthing power hungry like th 8800Ultra or new cards with those onboard plugs? or should you connect them directly to the PSU ? I guess the Macpro PSU has no "free" PCIe16x power cables?

Yo Jeff, long time no talk. Btw, what happened to 3dss forums? I can't go there. Did it shut down? Nice pix of your mazda and housing, saw it! love it!
The noise I'm surprised. I'm VERY picky with noise. BUT Idle noise is quiet
at 48C And after 1 hour of UT3 the fan doesn't really spin or down very often, and its temp is 70C. Occasionally in COD4, the fan will spin up and down and be a little noisy, but the thing is the Mac Case really shuts up fan noise. The thing is it doesn't do it often enough to annoy me. If it were constant during a game, I'd complain. At the same time this type of case amplifies HDD noise..its a trade off. Idle volume is very similar to my Artic Coolers i had on x1900XT. Overall volume is quieter than X1900xt stock on this evga stock cooler. The EVga cooler is quieter and spins less than the other Nvidia cards.

The Mac pro is only 300W, but can power the video card without problems. Don't go for the mumbo jumbo about power supplies. I've always used low powered PSu's as long as I can remember without issues. Its all about EFFICIENCY, not total power. 85% efficiency for 300w= 255
    60% effiency for 400w= 260w
Therefore, a good psu 300w>400w typical psu. Power ratings on Nvidia or Ati requirements are given for the least possible PSU rating. Also have you gone to a PSU calculator? Even fully loaded there was always under 200w power draw. You connect the Cable from the video card directly to the motherboard Pcie slot.
You can mod the power from your DVD rom and use 2x molexes and have the power hanging out from there, but thats more cables and more mess. I prefered to pay a little more and get one clean simple cable. I keep the other cable for the X1900xt. You can only do this mod for one Video card installed.

    NOISE AND HEAT:

    I did more thorough testing.
This is great. I'm only getting fan spin ups very rarely, maybe once
every 2 hours of gameplay even in heated battle. The spin ups only last 1-2 seconds and I was able to get from midpoint in Call of Duty 4 til the very end with just one spin up.

Ambient temp: 70 F in room
Full load temp in COD4, 2 hours into it: 70c on gfx card
Idle purr: Quiet as Artic cooling in idle mode, 97% of the time its in idle mode

Thats great considering most people are getting 80, 84 and are having the "vacuum cleaner" sound.

Take note that its winter, and come time summer It might be a different story. BUT since California is much hotter than the average spot in the USA, the temperature score is directly proportional to how others create benchmarks.

    QUIET, and cool. Great!
Evga Superclocked has a different cooler specification.

Thanks for the info Danny. Sounds like a great card. I'm inching for a 8800GT but I don't really need it since I've got to study instead of game. Yeah, I'm not sure what happened to 3DSS. It seems that PC audio in general has died down in terms of activity. (new speakers/product/interest)

    Hi yah Buster,
I assume that Ev3A card worked in Tiger and Leopard? No need for a rom update or is the card you are using one supplied by Apple?

If so anyone tried say a Gigabyte 8800GT in a MacPro in OS X?

Apple has NOT released a compatible efi32 from their recent 8800GT
so we CANNOT extract it and use it to flash our PC 8800GT.

We are waiting for Nvidia to release a card compatible for OLDER mac Pros with efi 32
    There will be 2 cards.

In the meantime we have been screwed by Apple.

Still have anyone got a 3rd party card yet and tried it in the 2008 MacPros? If a 8800 works in a hackintosh why not a 3rd party card in a MacPro?
