Microsoft Yanks Vista SP1 Update File
Microsoft Yanks Vista SP1 Update File
There had been a growing number of reports on the Internet, including on Microsoft's TechNet site, of users getting stuck with Vista reporting "Configurating updates: stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete" on-screen before going into an endless loop of reboots.
As a result, Vista program manager Nick White made a blog posting stating Microsoft's decision to "temporarily suspend automatic distribution of the update."

I did have SP1 installed and have had no issue so far.....the blurry 'issue' I did have for a while has been resolved with this update. Can't say I'm unhappy about this update, it's good so far.....

Nope, it's no longer available I believe. I'd tried to update to SP1 for both my HTPC and laptop, no sugar!

When it went public, it was only available to TecjNet and MSDN sunscribers...It was originally scheduled for mid March on the Win Update site...
They'll get back on schedule soon enough..

Vista isn't anywhere close to being the failure that Win ME was. I wish people would stop comparing the two, because it's just misleading. Vista is a great operating system experiencing the same growing pains that every version of windows has experienced. Windows ME was a colossal failure due to its hybrid driver model.

I agree. Vista isn't even remotely similar to the debacle that ME was.
<-- Loving Vista more and more each day.

That's the odd part, I don't believe I subscribe to either, yet, myself and many others have managed to DL and install it.

There is nothing wrong with Vista. Everyone crying about Vista needs to do three things:
1) Turn off Aero & Friends.
2) Turn off UAC.
3) Stop crying & pretending like SP1 is some giant failure because you can't do to the first two steps.
ME was an abomination.

I use Aero & Friends and UAC. I actually really like them both.

Yeah, but you have a system that can take it (Aero, anyway). Most of the complaints I hear about Vista being slow as balls are from people with 512MB or 1GB RAM who say that XP ran just fine. Every now and then a 2GB person says the same thing. You don't really hear that garbage from the 4GB and 8GB camps. But at the same time, if you turn all that stuff off, you can run Vista on 1GB and even 512MB machines just fine.

Not only that, it was an affliction as well.
As for the Vista bashing I see when I surf the ineternet wave in the various forums, I don't understand any of it. Yes, there were teething problem when I first started with 64bit Vista, but with better and better driver support, and updates, I've no Vista related crash.....my beta ATi driver did cause a coupla freezes, but I put it to the driver causing the problem. Even my AM2 4200+/2GB HTPC and laptop which run 32bit Vista have been a pleasure to use. No problem with driver support now, and stable as heck.
