    Is my onboard sound busted????

or is it the video card causing this????

    I run a ASROCK 939Dual-SATA2 motherboard with a Realtek 850 7.1channel AC'97 audio codec

Sound card drivers are version 5.10.0.5650

The video card is a Radeon HD 2600XT with 8.476.0.0 drivers on it.

Every so often now I play a game and the sound skips big time causing some massive FPS problems. When this problem occurred with a game I even tried out the slacker.com website and music is just horrible to listen to.

I have even tried a DVD movie and the video played fine, but the audio skipping was bad.

I have tried newer sound card drivers, but that did not really help the problem.

If it is the onboard sound that is the problem, what can you recommend on the cheap that is similar to this????

although reducing 'hardware acceleration' solved the problem, there has to be an underlying uncorrected problem.

i have a Dual Sata II that I pound on the test bench, lately with the AM2 riser card and a 6400+ CPU....never had a problem with sound running in 939 or AM2 config...

is you ASPI layer up to date? it can make a difference in playback.

    go here

    http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/speed/s..._471a2_exe.htm

    download, check , then install.

also, make sure that your CD/DVD playa's are not running in PIO mode....

    good luck.

Well posters I tried your suggestions and they all flopped.

    BUTTTTTTT.........

For some weird reason when I updated the video card drivers to the latest ones ATI released the problem so far has gone away. I hope the problem does not come back again.
