Win2k Pro + in game lockups all the time
Hiya all,
Ok this has been happening for a while now and has finally started to p1$$ me off soooo mcuh that i thought i would as you guys as i am stumped..
I keep getting lock ups in Win2kPro. Just completed Diablo 2 Lord Of Destruction, but during play i had about 6 crashes. The pooter just stopped with the sound looping.
I have:
Sb player 1024 with the latest drivers.
A7V + 900@1000 Mobo is cool ie < 30 Cpu is <= 40.
Latest 4in1s as well.
This also happens in UT occasionally as well, plus other games as well and even just in windows on the net etc...
Gfx card is currently not overclocked as i thought it could be that, it is also blue orb'd plus slot cooler next to it.
120mm intake bottom front, 80mm intake over cpu, 120mm exhaust at top.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Cheers Guys

Try putting you CPU back to 900MHz, if the problem goes away, then come back and tell us and maybe we can figure out where your weak link is in your system that’s not letting you O/C.
I don’t think Win2k is your problem.

If its not an overclocking instability issue, it may be a driver for one of your hardware devices. I had similar problems on my system and it turned out to be my vid-card drivers. Try various Win2k versions of your vid drivers and see what works.
Originally, MS had Win NT 3.x running the video drivers as a service-so it could be simply restarted if something went wrong. However, in order to get more performance out of the system (which they needed to compete in the workstation graphics industry), they decided to make vid drivers run as a system (ring-0?) process starting with NT 4 and on into Win2k. This increases performance but makes a driver problem usually prove fatal.

I haven’t tried the 12.90's yet, but I'm hearing there fast, right now I'm using the 12.41's They’ve been really good for me, so I’ve just left them.
Make sure you un-install the old drivers before you install the new. Windows cant over write files that are in use.

Okay, I might just have a solution for you..... First, I see you have the 12.90 dets - that's good. You need the 4.32 4-in-1's - you can get them from www.overclockersonline.com. Next, make sure your soundblaster doesn't have any cards in the slots adjacent (I would recommend putting it in the slot furthest from your AGP slot, and last and most importantly go into your bios and tell it to reserve IRQ5 for a legacy device. That should fix the problem.
I want to be a Knight of the OC's, but I guess my invite is still in the post....

I have an Asus A7V133 as my sig states but any way my computer was running great except for in games just like yours. Then I installed this ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/asus/misc/utils/amdagp.zip registry patch and all was good!
Good Luck,

Thank you shill88, i installed this and so far it all seems stable.
However, i have yet to put it back to normal speed again. But at least i am able to play a bit of UT/diablo2 without the machine crashing every 5mins on me.
Thanks all
Jon
