Question win2kpro won't restart or shutdown

    Hey guys,
I just installed 3D studio Max r3, and now my shutdown and restart doesn't work. It does absolutely nothing when I try to shut down, just keeps running as if I never touched the button. (though AIM will shut down).
If I uninstall Studio Max, the problem goes away.

I ran Project X regcleaner and temp file deletion. Still no luck.

    Any ideas?

    thanks.

Do you have Adaptec DirectCD running also? That has been known to cause problems with restart and shutdown.

It might be that 3d studio just brings out the bug with your computer.

Just a guess though, since no one else has replied yet.

I have found that not only Adaptec Direct CD, but Norton System Works. Win2k really doesn't need sys works anyway.

I will go with the software probably bringing out a bug in your comp. I read up on the MS knowledge base on why it wouldn't shut down and it just told me that it's a compatability issue. It was.... an interesting one though.... If I removed WMP 7.1 from my systm or downgraded my video card drivers to default versions the problem would go away.
So i'm waiting for newer drivers for the video card (wont happen though)
    It's a laptop with an ATI chip : )
