Hopefully so. I find it quite strange, that with all the advancements, even in the CPU and mobo sector, that clock rates are still hovering around the same.
You would think someone would look at raising the FSB and multiplier significantly, to give a greater speed.

we are trying to add more execution units to the chips and running them at a lower voltage. it is unreasonable for a processor to have a TDP greater than 130w, that is why frequencies have been where they are.

Still it would be nice to have something,in the order of 3.2 to 3.5 running already.Instead consumers have to resort to O'cing and risk voiding a warranty.

if they could produce enough volume, i am sure we would be seeing higher frequencies...frankly, after reading M Shuette's very recent review of the Nehalem, AMD is not even within one generation of catching up, not even close...LOL, IPC isn't saving their arse right now......I have personally known Michael for many years, he is very thorough and would never fudge figures......
here is the linkie:
http://www.lostcircuits.com/mambo//i...1&limitstart=0
it is pretty pathethic IMHO, just look at the long list of benchies in the review, and I have been AMD through and through over the years, so now it looks like my the next intineration will be with the Intel product....
even with AMD's 45nm debut on the horizon, I still see problems with AMD truly competing heads up.....
bummer, but it is what it is....jeesh, my 6400+BE is lucky to hit the mid 3300's without, err, hiccups, from a stock 3.20gig (this is with pelt chilled water), so I have found other ways to "juice" performance, mostly in the ram area.....to say that I am disappointed would be an understatement....and going quad core is just more of the same, except for more cores......
you can only say 'yeah, but' so many times, sooner or later you will come to the conclusion AMD is presently playing second fiddle, and a very weak second fiddle at that....

As much as I hate to admit it.You are totally right,AMD better get on the ball soon,or I see chapter 11 on the horizon.

i think they have the low cost / low power end nailed
you can grab a 2.2-2.5ghz (45watt) dual core (BE-2400, 4550, etc) for around $50... you can also grab an AMD 780G based motherboard for $70-100... that right there is a pretty stout media rig with onboard radeon 3200 and a chip that should hit almost 3ghz at stock volts... the kicker is that the whole setup uses barely any power

yeah, we're all talking about K10, whose TDP is no less than an abomination. there is no reason but sentimentality for anyone to choose a Phenom build as of now.

Amen to that.......
It only hurts one time converting to the Intel platform (CPU and MB, and maybe DDR3), but once you have done the deed, upgrading CPU's is about the same cost after that, I can live with paying a little extra for the Intel product at upgrade time, especially since the Intel product does insane scaling compared to AMD.......
Then, there is the performance......basically, Intel just flat out screams right now.....
Really, except for people with huge budget concerns and the many AMD fanpeople that will never give up on AMD, Intel is the snizit right now, hands down.....
Sheding a tear for AMD right now...

preliminary shangai performance looks pretty good. quite enormous in performance/watt, actually.
of course intel's response to this is a series of 35w yorkfields coming out (but they are like $400+) by dec.

Actually Cyber, I was going to ask what you're using for cooling your 9850BE. I'm at 3.0GHz rock solid stable with Prime95 torture test with no voltage adjustment. 3.1 runs fine for everything I do, but one of the cores does eventually fail the Prime95 torture test, so I've clocked it down to 3.0GHz for now. I'm using a Zalman ZF9225ATH HSF (not as good as the Zalman 9700CPNS LED, but better, I think, than the stock AMD HSF).
You'd probably get over 3.0GHz quite easily with a better HSF at stock volts.
Yeah, I've seen the reports about the 45 nanometre Phenoms, and they're certainly looking very nice. I might just sell my current 9850BE and get a Phenom II 940 and throw that in my A7DA-S mobo.

I'm using a Zalman 9700.I need to know what your BIOS settings are.Running stable most of the time @ 2.9ghz.Also mem is rated @ 5-5-5-15.Can someone please tell me the designations?
I know the first one is latency.Voltage is in mv,very confusing.

all of those numbers represent "latency" and they specify the length of time, in terms of nanoseconds or complete clock cycles how long it takes to do certain things. There are tons of parameters but these are the main ones that are generally referred to as memory "timing:"
* CL: CAS Latency. The time it takes between a command having been sent to the memory and when it begins to reply to it. It is the time it takes between the processor asking for some data from the memory and it returning it.
* tRCD: RAS to CAS Delay. The time it takes between the activation of the line (RAS) and the column (CAS) where the data are stored in the matrix.
* tRP: RAS Precharge. The time it takes between disabling the access to a line of data and the begin of the access the another line of data.
* tRAS: Active to Precharge Delay. How long the memory has to wait until the next access to the memory can be initiated.
* CMD: Command Rate. The time it takes between the memory chip having been activated and when the first command may be sent to the memory. Sometimes this value is not informed. It usually is T1 (1 clock cycle) or T2 (2 clock cycles).

Well I tried everything I can think of,and it won't stay at 3ghz.
I keep getting a BSOD saying something about, second core did not get an interrupt on time.I have RAM @ 5-5-5-15 and I stepped up v to 100mV.
There are a lot of settings here that I do not understand so,I leave them at auto.Running @ 2.9 now.
