Heck if management would even meet me halfway between what I have now and the lowest figure on that chart....I would still be half again what I'm making now!

    Yeehaw for local government wages!!

It's time to find another job. On the other hand, you've probably receive benefits that are better than the UAW's.

Hmm, not bad. I may have to make this my career path seeing as how physics didn't work out. I don't think any of the schools around me teach this stuff though.

I enjoyed a 6 figure income in my IT/Communications consulting career (retired in 1998).
It is a great field for top talent.

bit OT but what would you estimate the average salary for an entry level software engineer is in CA?

MrD would know for sure, but it depends on the exact type of software.

For example game programmers can pretty much write their own ticket especially if they have a MIAE from Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy at U of Central Florida. IIRC salaries for their grads start well above $80k. On the other hand low end (no masters degree) game industry programmers start at ~$60k.

Salaries for entry level positions in other industries can be significantly less. Link

The health insurance is wonderful but $30,000 is hard to choke down when you overlook about 50 PCs, 5 servers, and about 100 cameras on 4 DVRs.

I'm always looking but we're in the "rust belt". No industry is here, just crooks and dope heads...hence the prison occupation of mine!
