Was amazed that Dawkins went to Denver. Read reports of him "on the decline", but each and every Philly game that I saw he looked like an absolute stud at safety. One of the best in the league.
I was crushed he left. Not that I blame him..the Denver deal was miles better than what Philly offered him. I can only take comfort in the fact that Philly always seems to know the right time to let veteran star go...Trotter, Douglas, Vincent among others.

As for him being on the decline, he started the season poorly. He played horrible in the week 2 Dallas game. He played very good against Pitt in week 3 I think it was, and had some poor games after that. But the last 3rd of the season he was absolutely awesome. I actually think he was defensive player of the month in Dec. He lost more than a step, but has a super high "football IQ" and still may be the best in the box safety in the league. He blitzes well and forces tons of fumbles, and still hits like a truck. I hope he does well, he is probably my favorite player over the last 10 years.

Philly has a pretty good track record in knowing "when" to let a player go. In the case of Trotter though... he did come back and play pretty well for them one season. Though when he left he was probably VERY overpaid by Washington (surprise, surprise... and I bet that Haynesworth has an "off" season this season).

Still... you allow enough stars to go and you'll get burned at some point. It's a numbers game.

Maybe I only saw Dawkins in the last games of the season... I dunno... but he looked amazing to me and I didn't think that he'd lost anything. Thus my surprise when he was declared "declining".

He's one of the few Eagles who I liked, and now he's gone to another team that I can't stand. My guess is that he'll make my life miserable playing for a few years in Denver as well.

Dawkins anywhere but Philly is ridiculous. He's been there forever, and was the man. I know it's a business and all, but he should have been an Iggle until he retired and I feel that with certain players, it's the front office' job to make it so. For the sake of the fans and appearances, if nothing else.

On another note, welcome to Seattle TJ Houshmandzadeh!!

Broncos also hired an old John Lynch, maybe it is a theme with them.

The Eagles let aging stars go..there is a difference. They are pretty cold blooded and do not let sentiment play any part in signing a player. Again I am not happy but they are almost always right with these decisions. They just signed Sean Jones who has had 18 ints over the last 3 years.

With Trotter I was talking about the second time when they cut him in training camp. When he left the first time he was a free agent and Washington outbid the Eagles (they usually outbid everyone when they want a player) , overpaid for him and cut him after a few seasons. When he came back to the Eagles he did play very well, but his knees where shot and he was strictly a downhill linebacker and could not cover a tight end to save his life. He pretty much lost the playoff game against the Saints, every tight end on their roster ate us up. Before the knee problems I though he was one of the best middle backers in the game, he could completely stuff the run and still make plays in against passing game.

I agree...but its just not how they operate and he knew that. I would have loved to see him retire an Eagle...like i said i will root for him, I own 3 of his jerseys, i wear a Dawkins jersey every Sunday during the season and will continue to do so.

So it's the Bill's QB who'll get thrown under the bus next year by TO.

Man, the Pats with Moss and Owens would be one for the ages.

I thought about that too. On one hand having he and Moss on the field at the same time would just be terror for the CBs. On the other hand though, they'd both be whining all the time about Tom not throwing to them. Oh man, TO, Moss, with Welker in the slot...that'd be brutal.

Yeah but imagine how much the competition between them would boost their performance levels.

Don't forget about Lee Evans in Buffalo, he's put up some nice numbers while he's been there. They should have a nice offense going with those 2 at WR and Lynch at RB

That's assuming Lynch makes it to the regular season without committing a felony.

I'm hoping the Lions take Matthew Stafford instead of a defensive position. He'd be an awesome backup to Culpepper and he seems to have mad skills. The Lions need everything but they have an amazing wideout and they need to be able to get the ball to him.
