Iron Fists but had to change once I discovered they hate sisters...I'm starting a custom color'ed space wolves army.

Picked up the assault on black reach today and went to my hobby shop and bought 50 dollars worth of paints and brushes. No way was I going to spend 4 dollars a pot on GW paints. They had 50% off all brushes so I stocked up on their high end models.

Going to trim them tonight and I might start painting tomorrow. I think I decided on a custom scheme using burnt orange with blue shoulders outlined in silver. I'll do one and see how I like it before committing.

Check out this pdf that shows the schemes of most of the chapters.

I really like the executioners, but that looks like it would be hard to paint.

Sons of Guilliman looks sweet too:

What do you guys like from the pdf?
I like the Minotaurs and the Mortifactors. Storm Giants are pretty cool as well.

Make sure you wash the plastic...sometimes they leave some residue behind from the injection molding and it screws with your priming....also make sure to make a primer stick..its the awsome!

Priming stick instructions are here http://www.mi40k.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=83

I never could paint mini's...I tried with some D&D pewter minis in like 1982 and sucked. The best 'tabletop' gaming I used to do was all nighters playing either Shogun (Ninja FTW!), Axis & Allies, Fortress America, and Risk. Risk pretty much got tossed to the side once Axis & Allies came out. I was at Toys R Us this past weekend looking at board games with my son and was so tempted to buy the new Risk 2100 AD or something like that, but he's not quite old enough to play.

So I did some research on some gaming clubs near me...found one that you have to go through an interview process with the head guy..just to make sure you're legit. LOL You'd think they'd take anyone.

Just finished my first model. I took my time and tried different techniques. I've never really painted these little guys but I am satisfied with my first attempt. I used cheap *** paint from hobby lobby and it did okay, but it doesn't cover well. I bought a few different game miniature quality paints today at the local game shop from various brands including citadel, P3, and Reaper. Damn talk about a huge difference... Will be doing a set of 17 guys with the help of these paints. Since I go the hang of it on the first one this set should go by much faster. Will prime all at the same time, base them all, highlight all, and then ink them. Plus clear coat of course

Painting these little guys is very rewarding! I'm only half way through the rulebook but am having a blast just getting these guys ready.

I will post up my first one once I find my digital camera. I started with the orks and am painting them with red armor, yellow shirt and helm, dark brown pants, and black leather boots/straps. They are called the Skorchers.

Yea Ive only used the official paints. They cost $3.50/each for a reason, theyre damn good. Incredibly smooth, dries in seconds, leaves a very thin coat so it doesnt make the detail stuff "bulky" or anything like that. Yea its kind of expensive but its worth it. I wouldnt use anything else tbh. For the tiny miniatures, Citadel paints cant be beat.

I bought like 6 when I first started and now have around 30 paints/inks. They may seem small but since you use so little on each model 1 pot lasts forever. Ive only run out of like 3 since and had to buy a 2nd pot. Chaos Black (primer/black of course), Mithril Silver (primary armor color for my Grey Knights) and I had to buy a 2nd Bleached Bone because I was a dumbass one day and left it open and it dried out (was like 3/4ths empty anyway).

Im about ready to clearcoat my Grey Knights soon as well. I had considered them done (but hadnt clearcoated) but at the last minute I decided to change up the colors alot, add more bronze, tin, gold, and a few other colors so they seemed a bit more colorful and not just plain silver guys. Im really happy that I did since imo they look a ton better.

My only problem atm is the decals. I found a .pdf that had all of the Grey Knight symbols on it. Ive read of alot of W40k painters using waterslide decals that they use in their home printers to print out the symbols and put them on the minatures before clearcoating. Id love to do this but so far cant find any inkjet decals that seem like theyd work well. All the ones I find want you to print than spray the page with some kind of sealant. Id like to find a print and go sheet. Im either gonna have to buy laser sheets and go to Kinkos or something or find a print shop that will print my .pdf on waterslide sheets (if they have it). Guess I could try the inkjet sheets and just be careful with em.

Oh and grats on your first model. Were gonna have to get a little gallery going once we both get our guys done.
