500 GB HD only showing 127 GB??

I have new system up and running with a new 500 GB HD. In 'My Computer' it's showing that it's 127 GB. I read somewhere else that I have to upgrade my version of Win XP to SP2, which I've done and nothing's changed. I also read somewhere that I should go into Disk Management and select 'Rescan Disk' but that did nothing also. I did notice, however, that in Disk Management it's showing that the drive has 337 GB of 'Unallocated space'.

What can I do to get Windows to 'recognize' the full drive?

    Thanks

    Adam

Format the drive with large block addressing enabled. IIRC it is a check box on the Disk Management format volume dialog.

the quick simple thing to do is go back into disk mgmt and tuen the UNallocated into a second or third partition

Did you slipstream SP2 with your XP cd before the installation which is what is required?

No, I didn't slipstream SP2. Can I still use the rest of the drive as a second partition even if I didn't slipstream? If so, how do I allocate it as a second partition?

    Thanks

I jumped ahead a bit here.............I went into Disk Management and I chose to set up the remainder of the HD (377GB) as an extended drive. I went through the 'New Partition Wizard' and now in Disk Management this part of the HD is listed as 'Free Space' but it wasn't assigned a drive letter. In My Computer, I'm only seeing my C drive with is the first 127 GB of this 500 GB drive and then there's my E drive which is just another back up drive that I have installed.

Shouldn't this newly partitioned part of my main HD have a letter designation so I can store data in this section?

    thanks

Alright...............you guys are going to kill me. I have a bad habit of asking a question and then spending some time trying to figure it out myself. Well, I figured it out. I went back and allocated the remaining drive space as a primary partition and was able to assign it a letter (G and now it's formatting. I should be good to go.

Sorry for the nonsense! You guys are great!
