Question Monitor not always synching up

My old aperature grille 17inch Viewsonic PF790 tube monitor when I turn on my sys lately doesn't always click the monitor on... sometimes I hear a click like the tube is dropping into sleep mode but never clicks in... won't come on if I boot that way, move the mouse etc... at power on I need to click the powerbar on/off switch a few times to get it to kick on and then start up...... does that mean the tube is starting to go on it? The picture is still great which is why I ask.

If that is the situation, can anyone suggest a quality replacement? Preferably 20+ inch ... 22 or 24 would be great.... has to be excellent for gaming.

I don't think it's the tube, but rather the inverter board starting to go out. This looks like power side issues.

Yes, it's in the monitor and is part of the power circuitry, and yes I would say it is on the way out.

    ok, thanks......

Anyone know some monitor reviews? I want great image quality if I get a new one.

I guess I'd look for a 2ms response rate ideally and a high constrast ratio? Anything else spec wise I should focus on?

Would viewsonic , samsung & lg be the top brands?

I'm in Canada so I can't source newegg.. I'm thinking ncix maybe..... what are the keywords technology wise to look for nowadays?
