 The people I work for have jobs, and it's worth while to them to spend an extra $200 up front to get a computer that's not gonna sh*t out on them 6 months from now when their kid tries to get hot naked Angelina Jolie pictures and blows out their Windows installation with a nice malware infestation. They'll spend that $200 + more and waste my Saturday afternoon while I try to fix it before giving up and reinstalling Windows from scratch. Might as well get a Mac and save all our time.
And yes, I do apply my logic to Linux and others. I recommend any casual user to go with the largest supported OS so that anyone can help them if they have trouble plus the knowledge they gain can be used outside their computer since most computers run windows.
I'm fine with people buying Windows PCs. It keeps me in work. I hate Linux and have no desire or skill to support it. But if someone is going to ask me to recommend a computer I'm gonna give them the best answer I can: get a Mac. It'll do everything you need it to do and won't get blowed up surfing porn.

They aren't immune...There's just so few of them out there no one bothers....Kind of like when Fire Fox first come out. No one bothered to look for all of its exploits/holes/weak areas..

The first thing to keep in mind is that Apple lies. Their main advertising strategy is simply to lie - shamelessly and relentlessly. Microsoft has failed to respond with suits for slander as they should, so Apple lies with impunity.
Windows XP was never mean to "fix" anything, it was an update to the Windows NT line, specifically Windows 2000 - which was a robust and extremely stable OS.
Windows 2???? What the heck is Windows 2?
Windows 1.0 was bloody awful. Tandy's "Deskmate" was a far better GUI than the original Windows.
Windows 2.0 significantly improved on the earlier version, but frankly was still crap.

Personally I found Windows to be worthless until Windows 95.

(WFW) Windows for Workgroups 3.11 was a business staple for years running on Intel 80386 and 80486 machines in a domain environment. Windows 95 was more of a consumer OS than a business one. Most of my clients went directly from WFW 3.11 to NT Workstation 3.5 or 3.51 when they first deployed the Intel Pentium processor.
Personally, I never used Windows 9x. In 1992 I went from Windows 3 to Windows NT as an NT tester.

I remember going from DOS 4.2 to Windows 3.1 and thought I died and went to heaven. Took me a few weeks before I started using the mouse - cause the Win version of Lotus 1-2-3 used the same commands as the DOS version.

Like UA I jumped directly from WFW 3.11 to NT 3.51 (although he probably went straight to NT 3.1). I thought the "start button" in Windows 95 was for chumps and loved the old 3.1 interface, lol. I almost never like any new interface MS has put out there. I got used to it when I had to with NT4.

You can debate small points but at the end of the day an OS isn't supposed to be noticed. They are there to run programs and be stable. The OS that runs the most programs available is Windows. It is perfectly stable. IMO that makes it the best choice. Little nit picky things like the GUI, small performance differences, or other features pale in comparison to that and are negligible to the common user.
Fewer software issues, fewer software options. Personally I don't have any software issues what-so-ever with windows. I can't remember the last time it locked up due to the OS. The last time I locked my computer up was when I was OCing. I haven't had any problems that I recall since the early XP days.
A BIG +1.
As with most anything in life, if you get stupid with it, it'll break. Windows is no different. Some of the most basic precautionary measures will keep your Windows working just fine.
And this applies to Mac just as it does to Windows. My roomie is a Mac user. He's computer iliterate. The hard drive on his Mac crashed recently. There is just no getting around this fact of life... hard drives crash. They do so even more when you are tossing your laptop on the couch. Laptops overheat when you smother their intake/outake vents by laying them on a blanket. All these things happen whether you have a Mac or a PC. If your ignorant with your computer, it'll crash the same as any other.
And sure the Mac OS is less vulnerable to viruses, etc. But it has it's own VERY significant drawbacks as well. As my rromate also found out when he wanted a game that I have on my PC for his Mac.
"Oh, you didn't know? A lot of software isn't compatible with Mac".

I went from DOS to Windows 95 kicking and screaming. I liked DOS. Once you were comfortable with the command line it was just fine.
I used a trackball for years because it seemed easier for me than the mouse was. The trackball was familiar from Missle Command or Centipede.

You make it out like windows falls apart left and right. I've seen bloatware slow down a PC and I've seen it happen on a Mac as well.
So what you are saying is that if you want to surf old school pr0n sites and don't know about streaming pr0n from a reputable site then you need to get a Mac? They should make a commercal about that.

You should have told him to install Parallels and enjoy software from both worlds.
I have a bit of lol at people using software selection as a major reason to choose something. It's like finding the one thing you can latch on to and run with. I guess you guys both recommend the iPhone over every other phone because it has the most software available for it too, eh? Everything else be damned?
I used to think the same way too, until I actually started using OSX. I've found apps for every single thing I want to do on my Mac. The only area it's lacking is games, and the casual computer user doesn't PC game anyways, he/she probably has a Wii or 360.

Find me some OSX spyware which will blow out your Mac installation please. Since afaik it doesn't exist. Something on the realm of the Vundo strains or any of the other pleasant ones which will jack up your winlogon.exe and make it damn near impossible to fix. Combofix is getting pretty good at it but even that can't stop everything.
lol at even trying to compare OSX and Windows when it comes to spyware and viruses. You don't even NEED to run an antivirus program on OSX. Or a firewall. Or an antispyware program. None of the apps that suck away your CPU cycles constantly.
edit: and yeah, IMO in the hands of the average user, Windows DOES "fall apart left and right." Sure, with some knowledge and foresight and cautiousness it will run forever. I don't use a firewall or antivirus or antispyware tool on my Vista install (or my XP installs before either) and I don't have any problems. But I'm also a professional. I can stick every known protection tool on a Windows PC and give it to a family of 4 and I'll be back over within the year fixing a malware outbreak. I don't have to do that with a Mac.

Yeah, cause everyone totally follows the current "legitpornsitesforrilz.com" top 10 list so they know which sites are reputable.
It's obvious you've never done tech support for a living or even understand just how little the average PC user knows.

So let me get this straight. First we go and pay a premium for the hardware from the OS vender. Then we find that we can't use all the programs we are used to so then we have to go out and buy a 80 dollar program that lets us use windows. Then we have to buy windows for 120+. Install that and then we have to chance to run both OSX and Windows 7 side by side. I think that would blow the casual user's mind. Not only do they have to run parallel but they also have to learn how to use both OS's.
I've listed a lot of reasons why I would tell the casual user to go with Mac, program selection is just one of them.

I never said spyware. I said bloatware. Like people installing all kinds of crap onto their system to the point where it slows it down. I've seen that happen on both systems. I run without virus protection and scan for malware with Malwarebytes once a month. I haven't been infected in forever. My brother was about 6 months ago, it took 5 minutes to fix it.

For the actual user who cares about PC games? What's that, 0.1% of Mac users? I think they'll get beyond the mind blowing part.

Sounds like bullsh*t dude. Macs don't run a million things in the background the way Windows does. So why would installing a lot of crap onto a Mac slow it down?
