    Angry Scanner

Just installed Angry scanner on my system. I believe I am running into the problem wherein Windows limits to 10 incomplete connections at a time, thus it takes a long time to scan the 255 possible hosts on my Windows network. I have located the TCPIP system file but have had conflicting answers on how to mod this file to allow more concurrent connection attempts. Plus I also just installed UltraEdit text editor. I am not at all good with this app yet, and I damaged a JPEG file I attempted to alter. So what I need is instructions for changing this file and saving it properly with UltraEdit (or another app) without mutilating it. Thank you in advance.

Pretty broad range in your question there.

Couldn't really help you with the rate limiting since they've made it part of the tcp/ip stack, you're looking at finding a patched tcpip.sys that you trust enough to stick on your machine.

For the hex editing I assume you've got some experience with disassembly/analysis since the question of "how" to edit the file is way deeper than anyone could really take you on a forum. For Ultraedit if it's mangling your edits, make sure it isn't opening up the file in text mode. Couldn't walk you through it since I dropped ultraedit when they moved to being commercial but you should be able to find the setting up top somewhere. If that's your issue that's pretty strange on a jpeg since they say they do a quick scan for nulls on the first 3k of the file to figure out if it should be opened in hex mode.

If ultraedit is still giving you hassles try Hiew or HxD for your editing.

What OS are you running? You can't really change tcpip.sys on Vista or W7 because of system protection. You have to use something which disables that during startup. I use the automated method here:
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/0...nection-limit/

Make sure you install ReadyDriverPlus from that page as well. It's pretty neat when you see it changing selections during startup.

If you use XP it's a lot easier. If you use Windows 7 I dunno, I haven't done it yet. Look around.

There is the theory of the moebius. A twist in the fabric of space where time becomes a loop.

My system is Windows XP SP3. I realize I need to change that file. I have also noticed XP's penchant for restoring altered or missing system files. (Didn't consider that 'til now). I have found instructions for changing that file in SP2, but the file length and other descriptors doesn't match mine, so I didn't try it. Re UltraEDit- I shall investigate the programs you mentioned. Thank you.

There's quite a few XP tcpip.sys patchers out there.. here's one that advertises working on SP3:

I find this scanner much better than Angry IP.

It has a setting to ignore deep scaning of unresolved IPs so it can finish fast 255 scans.
