Thumbs down Things I dislike about Windows 7... What about you?

My biggest gripe is the crappy taskbar. I HATE it with a passion. It is the worst design crap ever!

First the taskbar should allow shortcuts and it does. But its not the same as with XP to Vista style. You can Pin to bottom. Now if you click it, it will launch and make that icon larger. You cannot click it again to launch another copy. For example with FireFox....

I would normally have 3 - 5 copies for FF running with 6 - 10 windows in each. This is how I like it and no I will not change it. So if I add it to the taskbar, and click to launch it. If I click it again it does not open another copy but bring it forward. LAME!

Also how it appears, it should move to the right and show in the taskbar NOT stay where I had it pinned. So it will mix launched and unlaunched pinned items. Totally lame.

Tasks that the main window can close and still be active, for example like MSN Messenger. Does not minimize to the tasktray, but stays active only in the taskbar. This is also lame for programs that are always opened!

I wont even go into how annoying and crappy the hidden tasktray notifications are.

Anyone know of tweaks, tricks to make Windows 7 crappy taskbar/tray more like Vista? Which was 100% better?

What other quarks did you find?

Have you tried using the Jump List feature where you right click the icon on the Taskbar and open popular sites/links. Betcha can open several instances of FF. Give it a try.

Betcha you're right. Haven't figured out how to add more though. Have you?

The way the new quicklaunch works is probably my favorite part of 7. And yes you can just right click and open another instance.

I actually like that the icons of the programs I've got pinned don't move as well.

Yes, I just tried it. After populating one instance of FF with 7 tabs, I right clicked the FF icon on the Taskbar and selected Mozilla Firefox and it opened another window. Then I tried it again and it opened another window of FF. Hope this helps.

I dont want to do more then a single click to open another copy of an applications. I should not have to right click, do this or do that. Click -> Done.

The worst part of Win7 is the taskbar. I hate the pin to option. I hate that it mixes pinned items and launched items. So you can have a quick launch of 5 icons and it will expand the size as you open lets say 3 out of the 5. Very silly.

Sorry, wasn't clear. It appears the Jumplist is populated with about 10 of the most recent things you've done. I'm trying to figure out how to add others. Will probably have to pin them to the taskbar, dunno???

The Win7 bar seems almost like a direct rip of the OSX bar, and I'm not sure I agree with the choice.

Middle button works for me at opening up another application.

The only thing I don't like about 7 is that when you left click on fire fox it will bring up the download box if you didn't X it out.

I personally think the task bar over all is fantastic though I like how I can right click for task manager (maybe you could do that before) and I particularly like the far right area just past the clock. You can put your cursor there to see the desktop temporarily or click on it to see it permanently.

When my trial runs out I'm actually going to buy this OS... first time I bought an OS since windows 95.

OH yeah, Something else I do not like is there is no Classic View option on the control panel.

edit: and another thing I LOVE is the robocopy command for large transfers between HD's now that I got 4 1 terabytes, dragging just doesn't work without errors.

Colossus: After Vista, Win 7 is a breath of fresh air. I'm not a lacky for MS but at 58 I remember the progression from Windows 2.0. Windows 98ME (reminded me of the early 4 cylinder cars with too much chrome, too little HP - an accident waiting to happen) was a huge speed bump with Vista not quite as bad but bad. Maybe that's why I'm so happy with Win 7.

In the likes department, when you right click on an icon and choose "troubleshoot compatability" it is a great wizard that actually works. MS should be emphasizing this feature more.

I not sure about adding items to the Jumplist. I'm sure there is a way. But firing up other instances of the program works fine with the right button click.

Now I'm intrigued with the possibility of adding items to the Jumplist. I'm going to see what I can find on it.

I totally agree with you. Where there is a will there is a way. I just don't know how to do what you're looking for.

I think the links that OS-Wiz provided can better help with the functionality you're looking for.

Just click your middle mouse button / wheel on your taskbar shortcut, and you'll get another window. I'm sure this can be remapped if you're clever about it, as I personally am not used to clicking with my mousewheel.
