    Build me a non-gaming system

    better than this e-machine at Wal-Mart for roughly the same price range

    Why would anyone build a non-gaming system?

    We need a budget and main purpose please.

    That will be a challenge, emachines are actually of decent quality.

    Ouch, missed that, $400 budget system to do anything will be difficult. I've not been in the AMD loop for a few years so really can't help much.

    We do need to know the main purpose though.

    It's for a friend who will just use it for surfing, movies, photos, etc. He's not looking to spend much more than $500, if that.

    He asked if it'd be cheaper/better to build one as opposed to buying this system I came across... so thought I'd pose the question here.

    Why in the name of god would you use Vista for anything?
