You talk a lot more than I do.

    $49 for 1200 anytime minutes

    $10 unlimited text messages

$89 + about $20 in various taxes. (I'm in California - which makes Canada look like a low tax area.)

    DAMN!

Ouch...yeah I'm not ready to pay that much for a phone.

Maybe i can look into a shared family plan. I think something like 800 min shared with unlimited data would work.

If it makes you feel better, my employer pays for it. I end up using something like 4000 or 5000 minutes per month, since I am on the phone all the time for job.

That makes sense. We get a 19% discount off Sprint with my employer.

I figure I'll just have to wait till a better phone comes out for sprint. I really wanted the palm pre to shine but I hate the keyboard and the small screen.

I think the HTC Hero is on Sprint so maybe I'll grab that after the 2.0 update.

Hmm, until I recently cancelled my data package I was paying upwards of $170/mo for my Windows Mobile phone. Only 800 mins a month too.. but I had the $80 North America's Choice plan so I could call to/from Canada/US/Mexico without any roaming charges. + $45 for PDA internet + $15 for tethering + insurance + whatever. It was around $180 a month though.

Now without the data plan I'm around $90/mo or something. The data plan is useless to me here in Canada.

$170 is a lot for cellular service.

BTW Mr. D why did you give up life in Marina Del Rey for the frozen North?

Uhh, reasons that become less clear as the cold weather moves in, lol.

    1) to be closer to my family and try to strengthen some bonds
    2) to go back to school on the cheap via the socialist dollar

I played with the Droid today and I HATE the keyboard. I find typing on it very difficult compared to my Curve. I have no idea what I'm going to upgrade to as I hate the Storm and Storm 2 as well. Touch screen KB's suck donkey balls.

I got completely fed up with my Storm even after the latest firmware release. Went into the Verizon store and found out I could get a Droid on our family plan for $100 after rebate. So far, I'm beyond happy with this phone. The voice search is amazing and very accurate. Navigation is a direct replacement for my Garmin. Voice quality is very good. The phone is easy to use, but has a ton of apps and options. I actually was really excited about a physical keyboard, but the landscape touch one is very usable and I have had very few typing errors. This phone is going to turn my into a huge Droid fanboi.

Having some battery issues....seems to drain awful quick. Perhaps it's leaving wi-fi on all the time. Some are reporting that the battery discharges when the Droid is off. And by 'off' I don't mean is sleep mode but a hard off. I've got my phone all charged up and off now and will check tomorrow morning at battery level.

A handset is never fully off unless the battery is removed otherwise it is in sleep mode.

Battery stayed 100% this morning (after being off for 10 hours). DL'd a bunch of apps and widgets and have all three screens filled with shortcuts. I'm sure there is stuff leaking out there though I checked my battery info page and it seems that 'display' and 'wi-fi' are easily the biggest drains. So I turned wifi off when not using it and set display to auto brightness. I'll just need to spend some time getting used to these devices.....my last phone was an LG Dare.

Wi-fi will burn battery like mad if you leave it on at all times. Whenever you aren't around an AP it just loops constantly broadcasting trying to find access points. Throwing power bar widget on a screen and just enabling wifi and bluetooth when you need them saves battery power in wholesale. One other thing to watch out for is rss/atom readers and email apps and twitter apps etcetera. Leaving one or two going on decent 15+ minute intervals is a great thing, but a bunch of them installed can kill battery time on any phone.

I don't even bother turning on WiFi on my Droid... Verizon's network is so fast, that the 3G speeds are good enough for what I do with my phone.
