Unhappy netbook not shutting down properly

every time i shutdown my netbook, it hangs on the "your computer is shutting down" message so I have to basically hold down the power button to turn it off. BUT it only does this if I don't have any usb device connected to a certain usb port. If I have my external usb dvd drive, mp3 player or whatever connected it shuts down perfectly fine I tried "safely removing" it before disconnecting but it made no difference.so i have to leave a usb device plugged in for it to shut down properly. any idea why it does this?

    - Re-install your usb/chipset drivers by removing the old ones, then putting the new ones on.

    - Install UHPC, helps deal with slow shutdowns, etc, by keeping your registry cleaned up.

didnt make any difference. I didnt remove the old chipset drivers first though as I couldnt see how to do that, I just reinstalled them.

You should be able to do it through device manager .....

    Did UHPC help a bit?

UHPC made no difference whatsoever for this problem.

I dont know what exactly I should be removing in device manager. I dont want to uninstall the wrong thing. Reinstalling it anyway didnt make a difference so I doubt removing and then installing it would.

If it only happens on one USB port the port is probably malfunctioning and not responding properly to system requests.
