I'm with you on that. I rarely turn on wifi unless I'm going to remote into another machine (and have a secured encrypted wifi connection, i.e. at work). I get full signal at home and most places around town so the 3G is fast enough for web browsing, maps, etc.

Leaving one or two going on decent 15+ minute intervals is a great thing, but a bunch of them installed can kill battery time on any phone.
Yeah, I'm getting a handle on battery issues. I did have wifi on all the time so that's the first thing I nixed. Turned down brightness. Increased notification intervals of the apps I use alot (eg, Twitter), and installed advanced task killer to see what was running. Battery is much better now. Also have an issue that I work in a large building where the signal is not great so that hurts battery power a bit. Anyway, I'm new to these phones so I'm climbing the learning curve here.

I saw that the cheapest data and talk plan is 450 any time minutes with unlimited data and messaging for $100 a month.

Not bad, but not really great. For 120 I could get the same for 2 lines + 600 more min on sprint.

Yea Sprints everything plan is $99/month for unlimited talk, text, and data. Verizons $99/month plan is only 450mins.

Ive been heavily debating a Droid vs Hero for a while now. Id prefer the Droid with a physical keyboard and Android v2.0 but I like Sprints plan alot more but Id miss having a keyboard on the Hero, dont think Id like the virtual one.

    WTB Droid on Sprint plz.

Word is HTC Hero will be getting the Android 2.0 update later this year. I think I'll renew my sprint account and grab a hero once that happens.

Yea I figured that issue was just a matter of time, but I still greatly prefer a physical keyboard to an onscreen one. I guess Ill have to stop by the Sprint store one of these days and see how awful typing with an onscreen KB and if its worth dealing with to enjoy the cheaper plan.

Yes, most if not all current 1.6 devices should get 2.0 in the near future. 2.0 source is in the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) master tree now. We are just waiting on updated drivers from Qualcomm to allow hardware encoding/decoding and also to make the camera work in 2.0. I don't suspect it will be too long now as the ADP2 (Android Developer Phone 2) is out now (Ion) but was released with 1.6r1.

The problem with wanting the Droid on Sprint is that your Droid will be on Sprint.

I've learned from the iPhone that no matter how cool a device is, it doesn't mean anything if you are on a crap network. If your phone drops calls, it's useless as a phone. If your data connection sucks, it's useless as a smartphone.

It is best to select the carrier with the best network for the area you use the most.
In spite of the provider hype the best network varies city by city. There are black holes everywhere and the carriers don't care about fixing them.

I accidentally dropped my 4 year old phone and broke the screen, so I just bought this one. Gets here on Tuesday. This is like my first cool gadget thing so I'm kind of excited.

It's THE gadget of gadgets. Today I was shopping for a reciprocating saw at Lowe's. Out of stock. Type in "Lowe's" in Google.....click to put the results on a map. And there I am on the map (GPS located) with Lowe's stores also on the map....click on the dot, up comes the phone number, click to dial the number. Holy chit cool beans! And that's the tip of the iceberg.

Do you have any recommended screen protectors or cases? I got the ones offered by Verizon, as the stuff I saw on Amazon didn't look very good.

Very nice. Though you have a bit less space to type on the top of the hard keyboard.

    Screen protector:

ZAGG Invisible Shield. I had the sales associate at Best Buy put it on. Gotta wait at least 12 hours for it to dry though!

I always use the PSP ones from EB Games on my electronic stuff but I bought the Verizon 3 pack when I bought the Droid. They are too thin and sticky. I used up two of them because of dust particles getting under them and still ended up with one dust mote on the 3rd try. When it annoys me enough I will take it off and put a PSP protector on there.

Anybody try any of the emulators available on the market yet?
