Is turn-by-turn google map independent from 3g signal or it's required stay connected to get turn by turn?

It's probably going to need a constant net connection in case you miss a turn and it needs to recalculate. I doubt it stores any map information on the device. It is from Google after all, the same company that's making an OS that's completely useless without an internet connection. I don't think they have any qualms about making a navigation app that requires constant access.

It saves maps and voice directions to your sd card when you set a destination but haven't seen anyone put it to a hard test of changing mid-route while it's connection is lost.

Google Maps on my WM6 phone does that, but I know if you need to recalculate it automatically reconnects to the net. I don't see how it couldn't, it doesn't store anything more than the information that shows your exact route.

I can't see why they would change this since it's in Google's best interest to have you constantly connecting to their service.
