Toshiba pro 4600

A friend gave me this laptop,is old already but looks in great shape.
Anyway,I got it without a PS and I had no way of charging it.
I ordered the proper PS from Toshiba and I got it today,plugged it in and it started charging batt.
The bad thing is,that with the PS in,it will not power up or do anything at all.I don't hear the hdd starting up and the screen remains black,no signs of life at all.
If anyone has any ideas,please share.

Now ya know why you got it for free

I have a next to brand spankin new sony lappy with win98 on it...After spending about 100 bucks for a new PS I found that it would only boot up with a working battery in it. Darn battery cost about another 100 bucks...So here it sits collecting dust...

In theory - you'd think to yourself - OH maybe this lappy is old enough to need a new battery too - and then hopefully you'd come to the same conculsion I did - spending 200 bucks to fix a $15.00 machine isn't worth it.

You can always take it apart to see what it looks like inside - then toss it

The cause I don't know.All I know is,I exchanged the ram in it for a 256mb module I had of pc133 and now it runs fine.

Slow compared to the desktop I have,is a P3 1ghz but is good enough to keep my wife busy.

The only thing I would like to get for her is,another stick of pc100 so I can bring it up to 512mb.It runs painfully slow on 256 now.
