Angry hmm.. got new network switch now my torrent wont work :( bit tornado

ok the other day I replaced a 6 or 7 year old SMC barracade 8 port router (it was configured to run as a switch anyway)

the new switch is a Trendnet Gigabit Green switch. everything else works fine and all my computers connect and can share file but the machine connected to the new switch.

    torrent does not work

I use bit tornado and it keep saying:
Couldn't listen - unable to forward port via UPnP

I double checked the IP of the machine and the router port forwarding setting and nothing change, it was like before. the only thing I did was changed the switch. the switch is one of those unmanaged switch that you just plug in.

I know it's not the torrent because all the torrent I tired gave me the same error. and if I try the torrent on a different machine that is hooked directly to the router (DCHP) and it seems fine.

anyone know what I can do?

You're sure it is set up as a switch and not a router? The error makes it look like the ports are blocked and upnp isn't set up.

Have you thought about moving into 2010 and leaving 2005 and BitTornado behind? Not that I think it will solve your current problem but damn, man, that software is ANCIENT.

Have you tried disabling UPnP and just locking and manually forwarding the port?

bittornado have always worked for me. if it works don't fudge with it.

    what I like about it:
    - no problem with download speed
    - doesn't seem to bog my sysytem much
    - doesn't "pre reserve" file size before downloading. some torrent clients will pre allocate XXXX megs before the file is finish downloading. bittornado only use the space that it have already downloaded
    - doesn't beetch me about my share ratio.

I've snice tried other clients and none seems to works the way I like it like bittornado. but to each it's own.

    what do u guys use?

I don't think anything compares to utorrent. I used to use BitTornado before I discovered utorrent years ago. It doesn't complain about share ratio, you can turn pre-allocation on and off, takes almost no system resources (the whole install file is like 300k or something) and it maxxes out every connection I've ever seen. Not to mention it supports multiple torrents in a single window.

Kinda surprised you wouldn't want pre-allocation turned on though, it improves performance and limits file fragmentation.

typically a headless rtorrent setup but azureus does the trick otherwise. Haven't tried azureus since it became vuze though so it may suck now for all I know.

^^ Forgot about the utorrent SA mentioned. Better gui app than azur probably.

BitTornado doesn't support NAT Traversal, DHT, Peer Exchange or Magnet URIs. In other words, you're basically asking for compatibility problems and slow speeds because you won't be able to connect to anywhere near as many peers. Make the switch to uTorrent NOW! Also, uTorrent might solve your problem as it supports NAT Traversal (if your router in fact isn't operating as a switch).

Why does it matter if it reserves the space before or during the download? Are you that cheap on drive space?
