Outlook express to windows live mail transfer

My parents computer crashed, pretty much everything but the hard disk and other drives is dead. Im having issues transferring their email over to a new computer, they had outlook express, i downloaded windows live mail, as express is no longer available. I cant figure out how to transfer the files from the outlook save location to windows live, is it even possible? Im not worried about the messages, but the address book is quite large, and would be a pain to have to recreate. how can i get the files working in live mail? Outlook 07 will work as well.... They just want something other than our ISP's crappy internet email thing. I have tried to simply transfer the files over, but they are completely different file types, or im not finding the correct files on the old drive.
I dont care how its done, as long as it works

Did you copy over the .WAB address book file from OE?

Whenyou look at ALL of the options within live mail do you see an IMPORT option?

well... I found the import button but there is still no option to import the address book that I can see, the only options are for email messages

scratch that, you need to open the address book to import the old address book, i can be a dummy sometimes.......

Go to Thunderbird -- good import functions from Outlook Express, etc. (messages, contacts, everything) and great backup capability with Mozilla Backup.
