ASUS P6T memory qvl/i7-930 compatibility questions

I recently purchased an ASUS P6T, an i7-930 (retail) and a 6GB memory kit,
and have the following compatibility questions:

    Kingston HyperX 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C8D3K3/6GX

RE: Memory, this isn't listed in the mobo manual qvl (qualified vendor list)
I cannot download the updated asus pt6 memory qvl, I just get an undisclosed browser error despite trying to do so with different computers.

Buried in the mobo manual pages on memory compatibility notes and qvl tables it states "This motherboard does not support DIMMs made up of 256 Megabit (Mb) chips or less"

The memory specs for my Kingston HyperX are:
    Description: 6GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL8 DIMM (Kit of 3) XMP
    Detailed Specifications: Standard 256M X 64 Non-ECC 1600MHz 240-pin Unbuffered DIMM (DDR3, 1.65V, CL8, FBGA, Gold) (Datasheet)
    Mfgr's System P/N's: N/A
    Form Factor: Memory Module
    Pieces/Unit: 3 (Three 2GB modules, totaling 6GB)
    Warranty: Lifetime

So basically this is the wrong memory? or can anyone see the updated p5t qvl update on their support page, if so is this memory listed?

    http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...31&modelmenu=2

RE: i7-930 CPU, When I go to the asus support site the 930 is not listed as a supported processor, could this be because it is new, or is there some difference other than speed between this and the 920 (which is supported)? Such as the board needs firmware or bios changes for the 930?

    ----------
Edit: nevermind I'm just going to return this memory to frys, and get something from the vendor list in the manual. then try the 930 in the p6t and see if it works. hate to make the long drive for this but wt* should have known better than to listen to a store clerk for tech advice.

Where did you get a 930? As far as I'd heard, it hasn't come out yet and Newegg doesn't have a listing for it.

I picked it up last week at a Fry's Electronics store in the SF Bay area. I had just stopped in to check out cases for a build I'm putting together, when I noticed a p6t mobo on sale. I asked the clerk how much they wanted for an i7-920 to go into the mobo. He said I could get a 930 for the same price as a 920, $289 retail, so I jumped on it. I'd been reading about the 930's pending release, and was quite suprised to find one. afaik, its just a speed bump and an extra multiplier, but it's so new that the 930's sspec isn't even up on Intels website yet (last I checked). I'm going to upgrade the stock cooler to a Corsair sealed watercooler so I can try oc'ing it, its 3001A187 stepping is supposed to be good from what I've read in the xtremesystems forums.

Pretty much every LGA1366 chip is a good to great overclocker these days. Some are better than others, but few are bad. At least as far as air and watercooling go. I'm pretty sure that there are still chips out there with bad cold bugs which makes them poor phase and LN2 clockers. I haven't checked in awhile, but it's pretty unimportant to 99% of enthusiasts anyway.

I'm really hoping against hope that we get some 32nm LGA1366 quad cores. I doubt it'll happen, but it would definitely be nice. There are a lot of people that would like the higher clocks that the new node would allow, but don't want a $999 six-core. Even if intel brings forth a non-extreme six-core, it'll still be pretty expensive.

If you've truly got a i7-930, that's a 32nm chip and I'll bet you'll need a BIOS flash update to handle it. ASUS says you need to be at BIOS 0904 or higher to support the i7-930

Well, here's the data from the Intel sticker that's on the box.
    Pack Date:02/02/10
    Made in Costa Rica
    Freq. 2.80 GHz Intel(R) VT Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-930 Processor
    QPI 4.8 GT/s Socket LGA1366 i7-930
    Cache 8MB PCG 08
    FPO/Batch #:3001A187

32nm would be great, there isn't much detailed info about the 930 that I could find, do you have a link? (Or some inside Intel about it)
Thanks for the info about the BIOS update, where did you find that on ASUS' website?

enter your product (mobo), series (LGA1366), and model (P6T)

Thanks again! Finally I was able to d/l the updated memory qualified vendor list as well. So now I'm trying to determine which memory is best for this mobo.

I want a mild but useful overclock that won't damage the proc or shorten its life. Should I stick with ddr3 1600, or would 1067 or 1333 be good enough? I'd like to be able to run 3x2GB now, with the option of adding another 3x2GB down the road. I plan to run Win7 64. Also, why is some of the qvl-listed memory voltage so much higher than the 1.65v that both the mobo manual and Intels website states as the absolute max for an i7?
Edit:Found the right memory now I just have to buy it. I guess the high voltage memory listed on the asus qvl might be for hobbyists with extreme cooling setups.

Oops, the 930 is still a 45nm chip.

    yeah; http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SLBKP
32nm would have been neat, but this will still suit my purpose
