Strange happenings! Virus?
Windows xp. When sign off am getting "downloading updates" message which were occasonal but now occur everytime I shut down. I ran avira and malwarebytes and picked up nothing.
Anyone have similar experience? Thanks in advance.

Go and do a manual update, fully install all of them and keep your eye one the progress log. It shouldnt happen after that.
It could be while its updating automatically, its failing on an update.
