Eh, I don't know how legit some of these specs are. I have a Samsung TN panel with a 5ms response and it ghosts way more than my Dell IPS panel with the 12ms response.

Yeah LCD manufacture specs are almost completely useless, due to the over exaggeration of most of them. Just read reviews and if you have the cash stay away from TN panels, youll thank me in the long run when you really notice the difference in view-angle and color reproduction, they are just better monitors... Input lag and response time are almost moot points nowadays as all of them are so close youd need to be a pro to notice the differences.

I'm betting you will, assuming the TN isn't really old. Went from a CRT to a S-PVA to a TN.....and yes I could tell the difference each time (most dramatically CRT to LCD).....and not so much PQ but speed. View angles on my TN are bad, but I sit right in front so there is no problem. PQ on my TN is excellent as long as you look on axis. But if you play the shoot 'em ups you notice even small speed differences immediately. The slower panels play like old graphics cards.

In the market for a monitor too. Going to wait for a old Dell 2407/8 WFP to pop up on craigslist for $200 or so.

Short U2311H review (FedEx surprised me yesterday!):

I really like it. Colors look so much better than my old TN monitor. Things were totally washed out before, but now stuff like the grey background on this site look grey and not like some grey tint. It all just looks more natural now. I also don't notice any issues with ghosting or input lag. I played a few hours of Trackmania and Battlefield, and they didn't seem to play any differently than my old TN monitor. I got the ace pin a few times, so obviously my gaming performance hasn't suffered . Viewing angles are good, but there's definitely a blue tint if you view it from the top or the side. If you move around in front of it though there isn't any color shifting or contrast loss like there was with my old monitor. I don't notice any backlight bleeding, and text looks sharper.

My only issue with it is that the left side of monitor looks a hair darker than the right side. You can't see it in normal usage, but if you throw up a white background you can sort of see it. Also the monitor is set to a headache inducing 75 brightness. Setting it to somewhere in the 30s makes it much more easier on the eyes.

Overall, I'm very happy with it. Keep in mind my reference point is a 3 year old TN panel, but it's simply better in just about every way.

I've spent a couple days with mine now and I love it. The viewing angles are great, color reproduction is much better than my old Dell monitor and there are no ghosting issues.

The one thing I'm disappointed with is that there is no Aspect or 1:1 scaling mode on the unit. Not a huge issue since the graphics drivers can handle that, but it's a feature I used on my old Dell that does not exist on this one.

I have the same thing PointlesS is talking about where the left side is slightly darker than the right side but to be completely honest I did not notice until just now when I went looking for it.

    My configuration:
    Brightness: 30
    Contrast: 75
    R: 99
    G: 97
    B: 99
    Sharpness: 50

So I'm close to buying a new panel. Wanted to wait till the IPS dell panels got out there.

What model do you guys recommend?

    Random aside:

    I have a P2310H and a U2311H on my desk at work.

The difference in the color saturation, reproduction, etc. It's insane what the difference is. The IPS panel vs. the TN panel makes a huge difference.

    So go for IPS?

    is the U3211H worth it?

I hear the 16:9 aspect ratio is a bit irritating.

I was coming from a 20" monitor, so everything including resolution is bigger to me. Height wise I don't notice any difference (Only 30 lines difference), but width wise it's pretty noticeable. After 2 months of using it, I'm still pretty happy overall and my initial impressions still match my current ones. I actually ordered another one last night. There's a coupon for $80 off too. My Samsung 226BW just crapped out. Kind of disappointed it didn't last longer. I did RMA it but when I got divorced threw a bunch of things out including the receipt, so they will probably not cover it.

I saw this thread and the monitor looks awesome but the Samsung Syncmaster SM2233RZ 120 hz monitors are now as cheap as 238. Would you guys still recommend the Dell IPS over that for gaming?

I would recommend the Dell IPS over any TFT.
