I spent pretty much 24-7 of my life from 1998-2001 with you guys and it was a helluva ride.
Back in the heyday of sharkyextreme, the website was the first place I went when I wanted a review. Whether it was a cpu, or video card,,,, a lot of my purchases were based off the reviews and ratings on the sharkyexterme site.
One thing that gets to me, a lot of the old articles were taken down - that pretty much killed sharkyextreme. Even if nothing new was ever posted, I like to go back and read the reviews of the old CPUs and video cards. It helps to keep everything in focus. Most kids these days do not know what its like to have limited hard drive space, hardly anyone remembers when memory cost $2 - $3 a meg, when hard drive space cost $300 for 6 gigs, and when video cards only had 4 megs of memory.
It brings back some good memories to read the reviews on the old pentium II, pentium III, 3Dfx video cards, the first ATI TNT2 video card with 32 megs of memory. When Quake and Quake II where the games used to test new video cards and CPUs.
Taking the old articles down, is like taking a newspaper from the 1930s and destroying it. Part of our internet history and culture is gone. As time moves forward, its getting more and more difficult to find those old articles. Just try to find a review of Diablo 1 from 1997 or 1998, or something on Quakeworld from 1996 or 1997. Stuff like that is getting hard to find. So when the articles from Sharkyextreme were removed, it was like someone demolished a museum of internet history.
As a website owner, I fully understand losing interest, shifting directions, changing lifestyles,,,, its all part of life. But when the old articles were removed, my heart sank.
If I may ask, who is the owner of those articles? Were they sold with the site, or did Alex retain ownership of them?

I wouldn't be able to tell you, I'm sure all of that predates me.

Yes they were... I grew up (at least I think I did?!) with you guys. It seems so long ago though now. Hardware and gaming is on a different level:P

Ah yes the Audi TT has great balance but I digress... Try the Cayman S on for size. I loved it!

I'm touched that it meant something. Really... I had a lot of fun doing it and the most important thing to me was keeping you lot abreast of things Brings back some memories and I know what you mean. Kids today have no idea what it was like to try and manage 8GB hard drives lol!
All the content was sold to internet.com (they treated us all very fairly/well) but it's a shame that content was lost. With the advent of google etc... it might even have been useful to keep. I likely have some of those articles (albeit in word format or something like that) of old on some hard drive (probably a 4 gig lol). Bummer!
Here's what I'm up to now if you guys get Speed TV:

I remember reading the weekly memory prices right after that earthquake struck Taiwan and seeing the prices skyrocket. I think it was 1999, maybe 2000. It really was a lot more fun in those days, but I'm guessing the older folks think the early 1990s or the 1980s were more fun from a personal computer standpoint.
8GB? I had a 4.5GB Cheetah for my operating system (dual boot Win9x and NT 4.0 until Windows 2000). I did have several 8.6GB Quantum Fireball drives though, they held a lot of 320kbps MP3s back in 1999. Video, beyond watching DVDs with my Creative DVD-ROM and MPEG2 decoder card, wasn't even a thought. It took about as long to rip a CD to MP3 on my PII 333 (o/ced to 400MHz) as it does to rip a DVD on my aging 3.6GHz Q6600. I also distinctly remember thinking what it would be like to have a GB of ram. I knew that at the time, I definitely couldn't have used it all, but I still thought it would have been really cool.
I wonder what it'll be like in a decade or so to have a terabyte of ram, or if we'll get there. I think we will, but I think in ten or fifteen years time that we'll be seeing graphene start to slowly replace silicon as the building blocks of high performance semiconductors.

alexross - have you ever been to the Nurburgring? If not you'd probably love it there as it's an incredible track and the whole place is filled with Porsches. Just back from a weekend there (not in a Porsche though) and as always Porsches everywhere including a Carrera GT which had 'Not a member of the Porsche club' written across the back rather strangely. When I was younger in Edinburgh I was used to the Porsche 911 as a poser's car as it was the choice of well off solicitors and lawyers (who now drive Cayennes) so it's great to see these sports cars being driven properly on the track at the Ring.
I never actually read the main site here, I was on R3D and I think someone here on the forums (lilsixer or something?) bagged a 5800 Ultra/NV30 which was being linked everywhere. I stayed around for a while after although these days I don't have the same obsession I did with computer parts (it's cameras instead now!) so don't post much plus the forums generally seem pretty quiet. I wonder where T'bird is himself these days?

Last I saw of him he wrote for CPU... Alex Ross not Scotty. I still go to websites of games I used to play to see if it's still going. Kind of a morbid curiosity.
For a good time add SenorDestro to your 360 and Steam friend list. PSN: PoopRiot

Yeah, that's the last time I saw his name - an article in CPU. I guess some people move on with their interests. Mine have generally stayed the same but I've added a few new ones over the years.

Extreme Buyers Guide?
I built my first computer by using this site and it's sad to see the last Extreme Buyers Guide is from 2008.
Is there another site someone can recommend to help me build the latest and greatest PC?
Thanks,
Rokkar
