For the ~$7.50 right now Id say its worth it. Just be sure to grab the community patch (v1.74 i think its up to) to fix all the bugs and junk.

I bought it in store for $10 and I dont really think its worth it.
Its incredibly buggy, but also unimaginative and boring.
A very dull and buggy game...

Im currently playing it myself. With the community patch the game is great.
One of the problems with the game though is the lack of direction. It feels like there's no real motivation to finish the main story. It's kind of drawn out.
But for 8 bucks, the game is totally worth it. Just be sure to grab the community patch though.

I think it's worth that price. I never did finish the main quest but had some fun running around the world hacking stuff up. Like everyone has said, get the patch.

[Insert witty title here]
I bought the game when it was still considered new after it went on sale at GoGamer.com.
I was looking for another Oblivion style game.
At the time, it was atrociously flawed. Buggy to the point that when it actually didn't crash, it would have dozens of (often hilarious) bugs that just ruined any immersion.
Beyond that, it just felt quite generic. Maybe I wouldn't feel that way had I played the other games in the series when they were new, but having not, it just was not exciting.
Too many others great western RPGs out there now that keep from wanting to retry it.
Speaking of, isn't Risen supposed to be the spiritual successor of the Gothic games? Might want to try that as well. That can be had fairly cheaply now.

Risen was ok, but I actually thought Gothic 3 was better, minus the bugs. It's a much bigger world. Risen was short and while it was definitely a Gothic game, there was just something missing. It looks like Gothic 2 was the pinnacle of these games and that's a shame because I thought it was really good.

But those games were all completely unrelated, as I understand it the Gothic games all follow the same story.
