Remember the Might and Magic series?
They started back in like, 1986 or something.
Very neat, endearing RPG games with turn-based combat.
I enjoyed the 2 that i played and was really sorry to learn of the series end.
Several years ago i picked up a copy-cat title - Wizardry 8 (never played the previous ones). It wasn't great, but kept me going i suppose.
At least it had 3d accelerated gfx hey!
Something about the 1st person perspective while actually being a party is kinda neat.
I wonder will someone else copy the idea?
I'm pretty sure there's a loyal fanbase out there willing to buy it.

.... Wizardry came out long before Might & Magic. So if anything M&M is a ripoff of Wizardry.
That said, M&M 4/5 (the Xeen arc) were amongst my favorite games as a kid.
There is the theory of the moebius. A twist in the fabric of space where time becomes a loop.

I don't know how old-school you want to get, but you might want to look into getting your hands on games made by the old Westwood Studios. They made AD&D - Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2 (not 3 - that was garbage compared to 1 and 2).
Eye of the Beholder 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. It let you roll your own characters, create your own party (Paladin + Fighter/Thief + Cleric + Mage FTW!), and run around killing kobolds and undead.
Westwood also made a game called Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos. It is also a fantasy first-person RPG game. If you can get your hands on the CD-ROM version (or the abandonware rip of the CD-version), then you will have the version where Patrick Stewart did the voiceovers of the king. Back in 1992, I remember thinking that computer games couldn't get any better than Lands of Lore CD-ROM version, now that I had by double-speed CD-ROM drive (300KBps, baby!) and a Logitech SoundMan 16 (Pro Audio Spectrum-compatible) sound card.

Awesome.
Man, I loved Wizardry 8. Never beat it, but what I played was pretty excellent.
If you have a Nintendo DS, check out the Etrian Odyssey series as well as The Dark Spire. EO is a very awesome first person dungeon crawl that marries a lot of the classic traditions with some new ones to create an experience that feels both fresh and familiar; Dark Spire is straight-up oldschool.
For PC, check out Devil Whiskey.

New EO coming out this year. Looks pretty good.
If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

Nice tapestry Wurm, i had that one too.
Didn't realize that Sir Tech had been around for so long.
Yes i still have my Wizardry8 cd's too.
It's one of those things where i always say - "Oh yeah, i must convert those to ISO", but never do.
It's such a pity that these great franchises turn to dust.
Sir Tech, SSI, New World Computing.
Are there infact, fewer gaming companies today then 15 years ago?
Ironic since there seems to be more money in the gaming business.
Anyway, i just wish someone would dust off these classics and remake them with today's graphics.
I think they did that with Heroes of Might and Magic
But i never played those.
Did anybody try that one?
Kamakazie, thanks for link to Devil's Whiskey. It reminds me of a really old fan project called Bard Tales i think (Not the UBI game - which i never played)

I never really got in to Might and Magic but I loved the turn based strategy spin off Heroes of Might and Magic.

I still have copies of M&M 7 and M&M 8. Honestly both were fun, and interesting. I loved having a fly spell, with a party all equipped with bows and arrows.
It was like a group of humans masquerading as a Gatling gun full of arrows.

I liked Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. I think it had potential to be SO MUCH MORE but they just made the game too short and not really utilizing all of the things that it could really do.
