It would stand to reason that Blizzard would offer unit upgrades (similar to an expansion set) to convince owners of the Terran campaign to purchase the the next campaign.

If the mp versions between different campaign versions are the same, then you give little reason for SC2 players to purchase more then one game. With Mp being viewed as one of the main focuses, I seriously doubt Blizzard will offer no unit expansions in subsequent releases.
I thought about this, and I think you are correct. In World of Warcraft, they require you to have the latest expansion pack in order to play Arena, their high-end PvP competitive game mode. Anyone who is serious about PvP always gets the latest expansion packs, so they can participate.

Since Starcraft 2 does not have a recurring monthly fee, and with Blizzard being owned by Activision, I can see the greedy suits trying to see how they can milk every last penny out of the people that are hopelessly addicted to Starcraft 2. And if I was a greedy suit that worked for Activision, I'd try and find a way to compel people to buy expansions.

I don't remember seeing that. Do you happen to have a link to where you saw that? (I'm not being a **** - I am honestly curious, and would like to know).
