I heard Llano might be 5650-level (rumor of course) but can't find the source now. That would be more impressive if it wasn't delayed till mid-2011 and potentially not far from HD 7000 (HD 6000 is this fall/winter if I remember right?) but it's still a good start.

This brings up a thought: Considering how insanely power hungry modern GPUs have gotten, how will next-gen consoles deal with them? People expect consoles to have GPUs that are top-of-the-line at release (and maybe even above top-of-the-line special order) but I can't see any possible way they could squeeze an HD5870 into something the size of an Xbox. Wonder if favor might swing back toward PC gaming if consoles lose their initial performance edge... /dreaming

    Gateway NV53 15.6": Athlon II M300, HD4200, 4GB DDR2, 320GB 7200rpm

Next upgrade: As soon as I can get an Ivy Bridge machine with 128GB SSD for under $600.

You have to keep in mind that all Consoles have GPU's designed specifically for them. I feel this makes it a bit easier to pack something powerful into a small form factor if you're designing it from the ground up with specific requirements.

Also, keep in mind that there are 5870 Mobile Counterparts that fit in Laptops. May not be as fast as their big brothers but are still decent.

Of course, but if I remember right the X360 GPU was actually faster than desktop counterparts. This time around I'm pretty sure they won't be able to pull off such a stunt.

It also occurs to me that the HD5870 costs $400 and I don't know what exactly the mobile version costs but it's probably more expensive than most X360 models.

If X720 ends up running $500-700 for Mobility HD 5870 rather than desktop 5870 performance... well, that doesn't sound quite as sweet as the 360 deal.

Which sounds great to me because I've never been a fan of consoles... on the other hand, there is an inverse relationship between the success of PC gaming and my productivity

Anyone heard this rumor that Llano won't be packing Deneb CPU hardware but crusty, old K8 hardware? I've been hearing it, up until lately everyone said it was going to be K10 for the CPU. If they use K8 this thing will be a dog no matter how good the GPU side of it is.

It's BS. As far as I know it's the result of Fudzilla misinterpreting an AMD exec at a conference call. The exec said K8, but with the subtext that K10/K10.5/K10.6 are all K8 derivatives. Fud took it as an actual gen1 K8 core circa 7 years ago. Every reliable source has been saying K10 for a long time and I doubt if they're changing cores this close to release.

My guess is it'll be a scaled down quad-Thuban with the usual improvements and 32nm goodness. The CPU will certainly be destroyed by Sandy in every metric except price, but maybe the on-die GPU will be able to pull out a win. Gotta say though, Sandy's looking really impressive. If Intel can do this well with their first monolithic core and next to no experience making non-trash GPUs... would not want to be in AMD's shoes right now unless Bulldozer is a truly miraculous chip.
