Custom computer
If I lived closer, I would build it for him, but here is the problem: My father-in-law needs a new computer. He is pretty experienced and he doesn't like the typical mass market machines. He usually runs typical office applications and wants to run 4 monitors so he track his stocks while he does his work. He wants a high-performance system and has been talking about a 64 bit i7 system with at least 6 GB of RAM and 1000 MB HD. He also wants a full tower case with at least 6 bays for both DVD drives and plug in HD's. No game machines with weird cases and funny lights. Build quality and real support is very important. Cost is of secondary importance. Like I said, I could build something like this but I don't live close and I also do not want to try to support someone elses hardware (sometimes it's a pain supporting my own!). Can anyone recommend a good, high-end, PC manufacturer with a solid record in the business and who hopefully will not disappear tomorrow?
I looked on line and the closest I could find is Puget Systems. Does anyone know about them or have first hand information on them?
Thanks

Dell is actually alright. their low cost inspiron like is not that good and support is horrible.
but if you buy their higher end consumer or business like machines the build quality and tech support/customer service is like night and day compared to their cheap inspiron line. and you actually talk to someone here in the USA.

Agreed, my company uses nothing but Dell for Desktops/Laptops. More specifically their Latitude and Precision series of machines. I've heard horror stories of their base line customer service but business customer service has been great for us. Also, most of their business class models come with 3 years of warranty base.

This guy has no need for a custom build as far as I can tell. His requirements are very, very pedestrian by today's standards. The requirement for a full tower case is also way off, you can jam five 3.5" drives into 3 5.25" bays with the right rack these days.
I'd look maybe at HP's business machines and throw a couple low-power GPUs into it. That's all he'll really need.
