Sounds like a cool idea but I don't know that I would want to give up RAM space for it. I would like to see some details on capactiy.

Seems it's only using the DIMM slot for power too. Still has the limitations of a normal SATA drive. (I.e. need a SATA cab le, and also you are limited by SATA speeds.)

thats awesome idea. bout not too practical as you are choosing where you want to add more SSD space or ram... it's a hard choice.

if they make a DIMM slot with data interface, and the price of the ssd stick isn't much different from 2.5" form factors, I would not be surprised if mobo manuf start putting in additional dimm slots at least on their premium boards. Otherwise, how many people really fill their dimms with ram anyway? Certainly not I, and I would love to do without another pair of cables running about the case.

Srsly though, on second thought i suspect that by the time there is serious thinking about implementing data transfer through the dimm slot, memristor tech will have disrupted memory and storage altogether and we might not even be talking about RAM and storage as separate things.

I do...
4 desktop with all 4x dimms used
1 laptop all 2x dimms used
1 nettop all 1x dimms used

why? because a year ago 4gb (2x2gb) of ram was like $20 - $30 after rebate... why not

I can see a really awesome use of thse "Dimm SSD" if they allow some kind of Raid between the a pair of these and or with regular 2.5" drives

Why would you want to use the DIMM for the drive interface? If you need that much speed, just do a RAM disk. It'll be much, much faster than any NAND device. There is the loss of power issue, but something like that would definitely be working in a data center type environment with proper redundancy.

Uhhhh, it's not using the RAM slot for its drive interface. It's only using the RAM slot for power. The interface is still regular SATA.

not currently, but i'm sure it is possible to do so in future. The real question is, would the effort to develop and implement that interface be worth it? I agree with Nater that the answer is probably no for reasons I stated, but I don't agree with his reason...the DIMM interface speed is good, but its marrying that with the non-volatile memory of an SSD that's the lure and something you simply don't get out of RAM drives.
