Is this game a huge timesink? I don't have a problem with games like that unless i'm already playing one (civ 5)

Huge is an understatement. I haven't seen people spending time on game like this since the original EverQuest. Casuals are getting roped in too.

It's a sandbox, there's no real goal, so it isn't really a timesink PER SE. However, if you get into it, you'll find time disappear into oblivion.

Just got my lavae tower done, not working on a farm. My goal is to make a giant glass greenhouse with a moat of water to keep creeps away.

I'll then connect the green house to my house with an underground shaft or water way.

Kidding? Did you get this idea from the SeaNanners videos because he did the exact same thing.

I saw it from the X-system video. The user had a nice greenhouse and I thought why try to make one underneath. So I started one outside. My underground travel tunnel is built and i have one wall 1/3 done as well as the basic foundation set. It's looking to be 18 by 8 and all glass. The roof will be stepped in so I have the full 8 by 18 space (and not 18 by 7). Working on what kind of design I want in the walls. I might do some pattern plus signs to add some charm and hold torches. I have a lava fueled furnace working on glass and a I'll probably work on the moat next so I can be safe from nasty mobs while I work in the dark.

I haven't done much with lava but can you pick it up with a bucket? Does it have the same wacky water physics?

Water and Lava source blocks can both be picked up with a bucket.

Lava physics are different from water. They are slower, spread differently, and do not generate source blocks like water.

Pouring lava into water makes cobblestone. Pouring water into lava makes obsidian.

Lava also destroys any resource it touches. Some people create incinerators to destroy excess material (though I'm not sure why). If you die while on fire from lava, all your items get burned up as well.

I have a lava water fall that I used to hide the entrance to my base... not one creep has come even close to me because of it.

And I use it for getting rid of dirt and sand I no longer need.

So how do you make a lava powered furnace?

Man, I made a major mistake, I've been digging, stepping, torching my way every downwards for about 5 hours of gameplay, until I finally came upon a massive cave with some resources. It's also got 4 monster spawns in it, and now all of my gear is down there too.

Is the only way to effectively take out skeletons with a bow of your own? Do you need armor? Because they are handing me my *** right now.

Oh MAN that sounds awesome! Killing skeletons up close is tough but doable. If you're going up against a cave full of monsters I absolutely recommend some armor.

To power your furnace with lava, you need to fill a bucket and then place the bucket in place of where you'd put the coal.
